Expect a long, drawn-out pardoning process, and once Mr. T. becomes a free man again, expect some other daggers to materialize to hang over his head (Revival of old court cases? New charges for past actions? Take your pick). Just don't expect a "PT-led" government to be able to do a single thing that hasn't been blessed from on high.

I think the pardon will take a week or two, after the PM elect receives royal approval, then in a few more months Yingluck will receive her good news. I think they will use the 17 years in exile as punishment enough.

Everything in Thailand is all for "cho" (show). The staged overturning of the election results...the insertion of the predetermined PM...the return of this criminal...and this 8 year sentence. All for show. He'll likely be out in 8 days.

 

Remember 2008, he was allowed to escape and go to the Beijing Olympics on his word he would return to face charges. Everyone with a brain cell knew he wasn't coming back. He should be given 15 years lockup just for that, but again it's all planned and just a big show to fool the gullible masses, of which there is no shortage here.

Personal experience or hearsay?   It is not untrue, the general prison population in Thailand is not shackled, some may be when they are taken out of the prison for court appearances, etc.

If there were such places why are so many convicted, previously influential people in what you would have to class as "normal" prisons and do you really think that it would be possible to keep the existence of those "special" places a secret?

The funny thing is, if he had done his sentence back then, he'd be free already for almost a decade. 

 

Having said that, I don't think he's gonna do 8 years because he wouldn't have come back for that. There's definitely some kind of deal in  place.

8 years, I give it less than 8 hours... he'll play the sick card, get taken to a hospital wing, get a sick note from an obliging consultant and be home for breakfast.
