Phuket – A social media user has faced a defamation charge after he posted on social media when he saw police stopped foreign riders and fining them for allegedly breaking traffic rules on a road in Chalong.

The Chalong Police told the Phuket Express that on Monday (August 21st), a Tik Tok user posted a video clip with a message stating, “Chalong Police want money from everyone.” The video clip showed foreign motorbike riders being stopped and fined by the Chalong Traffic Police after they allegedly broke undisclosed traffic rules.

The Chalong Police told the Phuket Express after the incident went viral on social media that the Tik Tok user voluntarily came to the Chalong Police Station after hearing police wanted to speak with him.

They stopped foreign riders

  • Popular Post

Same as I saw in Patong a few years ago. Police stop. Only foreign riders targeted despite Thais passing by 4 on a bike and all with no helmets! Glad I didn't film and post to "social" media or I'd have been arrested LOL.

They claim defamation not for video taping them or for posting the video but for his comments that implied they were doing it only to get bribe money

Oh not another one you must know they pull up farangs and hardly Thais and no I wasn't there

I wonder if the video clip was made by a Thai or a foreigner, I had assumed it was a Thai until just now.

That's right! Put him on the next plane to Thailand!

It is a perversion of the defamation laws, when locals without helmets are waved through, and foreigners with helmets are stopped. We all know the intent. It has nothing to do with safety. I hope it was an anonymous account, and he used a VPN.

Power to the people. Truth always hurts the corrupt and the guilty.

Truth comes at a price! Be careful! ????

He went himself to the police station already. There is a big picture of him handing them an apology basket.

I never said that so your flaming for no reason. I wasn't there and you weren't either so I like you have no idea if they were extorting money or not. Claiming defamation is a standard go to and seldom pans out.

Yeah I hate it when people can voice their opinion openly without reprocussion even when it's opposite of the establishment or popular views

Were they wearing tight khaki uniforms???????

Phuket has some of the most corrupt police officers in the country.

Having spent extended periods there in the past, I have been stopped numerous times.

It was always the same story. Locals got waved through, farangs had to pay.

Disgusting and shameful but I have come to expect nothing less from the RTP.

Not sure what that has to do with my post. I was replying sarcastically to a poster that suggested to deport the man. A man who appears to be Thai. Hence plane to Thailand...

Lots of dumb farangs in Phuket. Good on the cop.

Oh what a relief. They arrested him.

Now I already feel safer on the roads...????

I am so sorry I was truthful, and showed how things really are. I know it embarrassed you guys. I won't expose reality and truth any more. I promise.

Simple ... ride legally.

When on Phuket, I drove by the Chalong circle a few times, and saw as they were 'rightfully' pulled over - no helmet.

Didn't notice any pulled over with helmets, though not really there that long.

Would they be wearing a helmet in home country?  Most of the USA - YES

When it comes to the RTP, always guilty until proven innocent.
