BANGKOK, Sept 8 (TNA) – The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has embarked on a project to improve sidewalks using porous asphalt to address narrow path issues caused by tree roots.

This innovative solution allows tree roots along sidewalks to receive better water and air, ultimately improving their health.

Bangkok governor Chadchart Sittipunt on Thursday inspected the testing of porous asphalt, a material being used to pave the area around the base of trees the sidewalks along Soi Inthamara 14 to the Saphan Khwai intersection in Phaya Thai district.

Tree roots have a habit of growing and will very soon displace whatever you cover them with.

Nice they used the proper term "sidewalks" some people confuse them with the pavement in the street.

And I thought they would make them wider so it's easier for the vendors and motorcycles. ????

I use the term pavements all the time, I'm not confused.....

I find it incredible that, even in the centre of the city, people are forced to walk in the road as there are more often than not no sidewalks/pavements in the side sois. And those that are there are often commandeered by shops and food vendors. Hardly the 'world-class' image that the country tries to present, is it.

No. Only those born in the USA would be confused. The rest of the world are educated to identify both terms.????

Don't feed the Troll !!!!

Everyone knows exactly what is meant by Sidewalk, Pavement, Footpath etc....  the debate is utterly pathetic.

Maybe the brains trust in Pattaya should follow the Bangkok program as the pavers used here are nothing short of pathetic.

The sidewalks in Bangkok are in poor shape.   The ones along Wireless Road haven't had any maintenance work done on them for several years.  Apparently Thailand wants to drastically increase the number of tourists, especially from China.  The infrastructure seems destined to deteriorate more.
