According to reports in Thai media, Thaksin was moved to the wing of a hospital with private rooms fitted with air conditioning and a TV, fridge, sofa and dining table, while under 24-hour care by nurses.

Pretty much standard fare in any hospital private room.

Whats the issue ?

Officials have denied he’s been the recipient of any special treatment, saying the former prime minister needed urgent care as he was experiencing insomnia, chest tightness and high blood pressure and the oxygen levels in his fingertips were low.

Ah-huh.  ????

Jesus!.... First everyone is crying because he's gone...now, he is back and they are crying over an aircon.
Get a fo-oking life!

haven't you worked out that what the farang think of the Thai way of doing things doesn't matter?.

Ooooh! I love seeing farangs get all steamed up about Thaksin. Think of all the energy you use up to hate. It could power a nuclear sub, for goodness' sake.

No need for the German engine in that case! ????

simply put it: it all depends on who you are and whom you blow and not what you have done, how much you have stolen from governemnt or financial damage to country or others,

"oxygen levels in his fingertips were low." Is this a new condition?

he obviously doesn't see himself as a criminal,

I don't see him as a criminal either.

As the victim of a military coup. Yes.

As the victim of military coup justice, yes.

The next show will be 'The Absconding ex Pattaya Mayor.' It's coming up to pantomime season again.????

This whole saga just stinks, Daily food sent in, Laundry service can he shower everyday? normal prisoners once a week, the authorities have got no shame

Money talks. This was all arranged before he came back and is nothing new in Thailand.

Praram 9 hospital. Khun Thaksin is or at least was, one of the major shareholders, together with some doctors.

Thats the reason some people assume, he could be there.

But he is not a normal prisoner.

I really wonder what people think, that a former PM and billionaire is treated like a crackhead selling heroin? Only in 3rd world countries like the US.

indicates there could be a lung issue.

Healthy lungs - 95%>100%.

Under 95% its go see doctor time.

Mine in January 65% hence 3 months in ICU.

That is a fallacy, just more Guardian garbage.  In Klong Prem showers are compulsory twice a day and they are not limited to 15 seconds.   Prisoners have more than enough time to shower, shave, rinse out clothing etc.

So you have hard evidence to support your statement?

What would you have us do? Stay quiet? Maybe just sit at the bar with our mobiles turned off?

Long enough to know what I'm talking about.  There are people reading this forum to whom I do not wish to give any identifying clues!

One must assume less than 6 months as people who are sentenced to more than 6 months are automatically deported on release or is it those convicted of an offence that in law carries a sentence of 6 months or more?

Perhaps Liverpudlians get  little confused and don't realise that outside of Liverpool robbin' the leccy is considered a crime not a sport.

And the charade goes on.   This is one big joke and an insult to all Thais.

His perceived soft handling has prompted claims of special treatment and ignited a series of wider questions about standards within the prison system.

The prison system we all understand very well... and it stinks.

Except for the VIP room in the luxury hospital hotel wing reserved for those special guests.

Did they realistically think he would be treated like any other  prisoner without wealth? Did they even realistically consider the possibility that a deal with the army was not struck before his return?

Please. Let it rest. If you are going to protest about anything, stand up for truth and resist the corrupt selection of the PM.

Well the Thai elite didn't give a <deleted> about Thailand's image after the army rigged the system and took power these last 9 and a bit years so why should anyone care about a returning leader of a party that won many more seats than any of the previous mob?

Every prisoner in the system should make a written application for a pardon if this fugitive who ran away to escape justice and has his sentence reduced then so should every other individual  otherwise it’s double standards the poor get a miserable life in the Nick where the wealthy ones just throw there money at those in charge and buy there freedom

I suppose I have lived too long and studied too much history. I used to be affronted by bribery in other countries and was supportive of demanding, under my countries laws that businesses be forbidden to pay “bribes or kickbacks”. I used to be affronted by countries having different treatment of legal prisoners based on their wealth. Then I received an education and find I can no longer point fingers at others while my own country, under whatever guise … “campaign contributions”, or being able to hire well heeled legal firms … results in the same ends as to what some are pointing to here in the Kingdom of Thailand. You see, I am an American and my country moves further from the ideals these days.
