Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin says he is thinking about moving into the Government House living quarters, to ease the daily traffic congestion possibly caused by his motorcade.

Srettha Thavisin told The Standard in an interview that his own residence is in the heart of Bangkok, travel to and from which in a motorcade could worsen the already heavy traffic.

Moreover, moving to Government House would reduce the cost of motorcades and save on fuel.

Chai Watcharong, the government spokesman, told the media after the cabinet meeting last week that Srettha had asked cabinet members to reduce the amount of taxpayers’ money spent on their travel and to reduce the number and size of motorcades, to limit their negative impacts.

I bet he's the only one with a conscience, all the others like being chauffeured around in a motorcade looking important.

Don't mention the cost of renovations needed to get rid of the smell from previous tenants,

Is it not supposed to be haunted, who was the last tenant anyway?, Prayuth lived in the barracks.

Don't heads of state usually stay at some form of gov housing? 10 Downing Street for UK, White House for USA? Trump stayed there even tho he called it a "dump". Sacrifice for his nation.

Or he can stay at his joint, but no motorcades: the leaders should have to face what the average Thai faces in traffic. That would get government attention real quick!

There hasn't been anyone in that residence since before the last coup.  It is going to cost of upgrades, maintenance and getting rid of the mould and stuff.

It should be interesting although I agree that he should live in the residence as it is set up for all the protection and for entertaining visitors.  It will also allow a certain number of laid-off people to get back to work.

My question is when will the uncles be moving off base.

His own company will get the job,

Prayuth was to scared of ghosts, and the people, and stayed in the barracks, even after he retired from the army.

It didn't report that upgrades would be necessary,  nor that there had not been any maintenance up to now nor that the accommodation was mouldy.

The house has been empty and relatively unused for 9 years.  I am sure with the weather and time, there will be issues.  Also, it is not uncommon in any government or country for the new PM to want renovations or changes.  It could simply be a different wall colour.

Government House is not "a house" and it has not been "empty and unused for nine years"!  Government House is the offices of the Prime Minister and appointed cabinet ministers and has accommodation that the PM can use.
