Popular Post snoop1130
Convicted former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra is not yet entitled to parole, according to Corrections Department spokesman Sitthi Sutheewong today (Monday). He dismissed as untrue reports that Thaksin, whose prison term was reduced from eight to one year by a royal commutation, will submit an application for parole, citing his age and serious illness. While Thaksin may fit the profile of those who can apply for parole, he must remain incarcerated for at least one-third of his jail term or at least six months (whichever is the longer), as required by the rules. Thaksin is currently only in the first month of his jail time, Suthee said. “One third of his one-year prison time is four months, but the rules state that the time served has to be at least six months. So, Thaksin has to serve five more months before being entitled to apply for parole.” If granted parole, Thaksin is expected to be a free man again next February, Suthee said. Popular Post OneMoreFarang
I suggest the following: If he is sick, he should stay in the hospital. But obviously the hospital is not jail. So, the sick days should not count as days in jail. If he is healthy enough again then he should go to jail and then they can start counting how much time he spends in jail. It's hospital or jail. One or the other, make up your mind. 8 1 1 11

I doubt that they care in the slightest how incongruously go comfortable the conditions in which he is kept, it is the keeping him which matters. Popular Post Dogmatix
This will soon be walked back, just like Wissanu's statement that prisoners would no longer get Royal pardons until they have served a third of their sentences last year. Then he turns around and says Thaksin will be eligible immediately and visits him in prison during the few hours he is there. 2 1 3

Popular Post webfact
Thaksin Could Possibly Be Freed On Parole After 6 Months In Jail By Thai Newsroom Reporters Photo: Thai Rath DE FACTO PHEU THAI BOSS Thaksin Shinawatra could possibly be released on parole despite a one-year jail sentence on condition that he has served at least six months behind bars, a government official said today (Sep.18). Corrections Department spokesman Sitthi Sutheewong confirmed that the deposed prime minister who had been earlier sentenced in absentia to eight years in jail and then given royal pardon to have it curtailed to only one year could not ask for an immediate release on parole until he has practically served a minimum of six months in jail as provided by law. Releases on parole may be granted for inmates who are either over 70 years old or have critical illnesses after they have served one-third of their jail sentence whilst the 74-year-old “sickly” Thaksin could apparently fall into both categories, according to the department’s spokesman. Zack61
You’ve got to remember that this PM has no real power to have him released. He is in a very weak position by virtue of the this bastardised coalition of political parties which placed him in the job. I believe Thaksin will be kept in “custody” until the real powers to be allow him back into the general public.
