Internet users have been circulating a video clip featuring Chuwit Kamolvisit, a former politician and prominent businessman, who issued a warning to Pol. Gen. Surachet Hakpal, also known as "Big Joke," about the potential pitfalls of his bid for the position of National Police Chief. Chuwit's caution, delivered back in April, emphasizes the importance of being wary of one's surroundings.

 

"Anyone aspiring to grow into a leader must be cautious of those around them. People nearby may use, boast, exploit, or seek personal gain through you," Chuwit stated, reported Sanook.

 

Addressing Big Joke directly, Chuwit said, "You must be cautious. Becoming the National Police Chief is not a problem if you stay in line. But if you're not mindful, you might lose your place in line. This is not a light matter; there are always people waiting to show off or take advantage."

 

Chuwit urged reflection, asking, "Do you think it will be right or not? If you accept it quietly and get along quietly, eventually there will be posts riding on the side, posts about meetings, and posts here and there, going on trips here and there. I'm asking you, really now, have any National Police Chiefs done this?"

Sounds like Chuwit knows plenty about Big Jokes "endeavors", and is implying that perhaps he is not suited for the top job?

truer words were never spoken... in Thailand, if you're a good man, you're too soft not doing your job, too hard and famous, you're a crook on the take... 

In other news articles it has been made clear already that big joke never was in the running for the top job.

 

This job, same with the top job in the army, only officers that near retirement are in the running

It was a white bulldog, wasn't it? Probably better suited to power than most of the knuckle-draggers currently occupying seats of influence.

 

Either Big Joke is a really good dude, trying to clean things up and being thwarted by corrupt vested interests, or he is a really bad dude, promoted by corrupt vested interests, who is finally being brought low by his own greed and venality. Who can say?

 

Either way, it is a perfect microcosm of Thai politics. It's nothing but a maze of shady alliances, stitch-ups, backroom deals, sharp elbows, getting the dirt on other people, coercion, stabs in the back, payoffs and betrayal.

 

The people? Let them eat cake.
