I guess I won't get many replies to that as usual but just answer me one question I do have Windows 10 and I want to get rid of those updates how to do it?  I am getting sick and tired of the automatic updates which can takes a long time to download when I try to restart my laptop. So just in simple words (I am a computer illiterate)

my understanding is you need updates because it will protect you from vulnerabilities/attacks/viruses etc ...

click "update and shutdown" before you go to sleep. should be ok to boot up next morning.

Well I did but the update was still updated when I reconnected.

I think you have no choice ... updates protect your PC.

Most of the time, the updates are done when the computer shuts down. So you can shut down before bed.

I think on some rare occasions, the updates continue again when you start up?

I am guessing you haven't done updates in a very long time.

And in most cases in the future, the updates will be done when shutting down, not when starting up.

Sorry, that's all I got.

I have already sent a link where he have 7 choices to shut down or permanently disable updates.

However, you are right with that updates sometimes are needed to get full protection and a stable system. Another option is to schedule updates. I have made that and my updates are done 02.00 if there are any. So I just leave the computer on 24/7/365 and problem is solved.

Get someone who is computer literate to install a Linux-based operating system for you, and wipe out Windows. Firefox or Google Chrome can be used as your browser. Linux is free, costs nothing to install.

The reason there are so many updates to Windows is simple. The vast majority of hackers on planet Earth are writing viruses, malware and worms to attack it, so it is constantly defending itself. Almost no-one bothers writing malware for Linux.

Linux has updates too. However, these are usually done in thirty seconds or less, and the system notifies me. When I update is my choice.

In another life. I was just another Windows zombie. I had 32 data breaches in that time.

About ten years ago, my son put me into Linux. I have had zero data breaches since.

I purchased a new laptop two weeks ago. My first order of business was removing the pre-installed Windows 11, and installing Linux Mint.

probably only programmers should be using linux.

What issues?

It works and Bluetooth works.

Wifi works and the kernel now also includes realtek dual band drivers.

I am streets away from being a programmer. My laptop is Bluetooth enabled with the Linux Mint system I have installed.

To connect my Brother laser printer to the laptop, all I had to do was switch the printer on, then plug its cable into one of the laptop's USB ports. Linux Mint recognized the printer immediately.

In contrast, here is a tutorial on how to install a Brother printer on Windows 11. I've had far more issues with Windows than any Linux system.

More a Windows hater. But carry on paying for your fatware, while I get an OS downloaded free which will not be subject to daily hacking attacks, as Windows is.

Some people are slow learners.
