How do you reckon that?

Try not paying your way, try doing things against the rules based order, try driving a car about and a policeman stops you, try having money in a bank account and having to explain it, try owning property and not paying taxes and fees etc...

Growing disrespect for older people is symptomatic of fascist attempts to undermine respect and trust in all societal institutions. Fascists attempt to undermine confidence in institutions and break down the social fabric (by demonizing the "other") with the goal of presenting themselves as the only solution to the very problem that they have largely created.

This is why you see these constant attacks on the FBI, the courts, the congress, election integrity, medical expertise (Covid), scientific community (climate change), anti-wokeism, meddling in school curriculums, and it's the main driver behind anti-immigrant, anti-minority, anti-reproductive rights, anti-LBGQT rights sentiments. Ageism as a form of societal purification is a natural progression of this ideology, which if you study what happened in Germany in the 1930's, is exactly what happened there. You really need to raise your consciousness in this regard.

"You really need to raise your consciousness in this regard."

Jeez, how lucky we are!

It is so nice to have such truly 'enlightened beings' commenting on this forum. We are all blessed...!

So you think that you should have the freedom to break the rules of society, break traffic laws, not explain how you accumulate unaccountable funds in your bank and not pay taxes without consequences, all of which contribute to a civilised society?

Who said there were traffic laws broken, a policeman can stop one any time, even walking down the road and one has to comply, who said there are unacceptable funds in a bank account and were not taxed, even questions are being asked when one takes money out of a bank account what it is going to be used for.

See you just confirm no one is free, they have to follow the rules and laws.

After 6 months in the west he will be bored stiff. That guy in Perth Stick Kicking left Thailand yet posts on here every night after 7pm.

Who mentions going back to the west? There are plenty of better alternatives, Vietnam being the new top rising leader.

I hear nothing but more and more good about that, and this also explains all the sad faces I see from backpackers who do visit Thailand, as they are in a shock for for example the prices, after they first visited Vietnam.

You live there?

Most people here are old or stuck, so these kind of topics here seem to get little confirmation or traction here, but it is a obvious trend for a large percentage of the people who otherwise would be considered 'expats', 'digital nomads' and 'new retirees'.

It's only gotten worse and worse since 2014, and in the recent years it is getting worse even faster. But yeah whatever, people are always in denial, you can just go back in the history on this forum, and then later on you see it did came out.

No but I do frequent there more and more often as of having a business there too, and it is just a really obvious trend. I am still living in Thailand, else I also left this forum permanently. But not sure how long that will be, it's 65/35 to leave Thailand within years, unless they somehow make a a BIG uturn very soon.

And if the taxes are indeed a issue, I already cut it to 179 days a year. Most of my foreign friends in TH say the same. The tax however is just the last drop that spills the glass.

It's not my biased opinion, it is simply what all the foreigners tell me, as well you can't deny if almost everything is half the price, with a better service / quality etc etc.

When people complain about some tings in Thailand I always

"What's what you wish for you just might get it" infustracture and services come at a cost.

Thailand is Ruined , Thailand is improving. perhaps not for us,  but As a country.

Most developed countries tax foreign income for long term foreign residents.

But many , to attract retirement investment there  have preferential tax rates for such long term residents. So let's see how this plays out.

I see nothing pot-addled glee from the few backpackers I come across. How many do you meet? Do you work in a youth hostel or something?

Vietnam, Myanmar, Myanmar -no long term visa for 99% of us. If Thailand does this, other countries will soon follow. I was in Mex first, a poor socialist country with crazy tax rates for affluent people. Now I'm in another one and hoping to dodge it again.

-If you live in a country, should you have to toss them a few baht for the privilege?

Reluctantly, I must say yes.

All this moaning from Euro's affronted by helping Ukraine or refugees. Is this newfound libertarianism simply opportunistic cheapness on all front.

Crunch time: if it costs you 10% more to live her, would you bolt?

I go out 2 times a week in tourist areas as well 2 times a week in expat areas, if you are then socially active, it is not hard to have boots on the ground and be very aware of the situation. If you would not do that, just observe and casually speak a few, yeah, I would conclude nothing or the same as you too.

Cost wise 10% more to live in Thailand? Are you joking? Beers are 30-60 baht here or if you pay more, it is right away like 4-5 star in TH. Food is cheaper. Everything actually is, even the rent is better quality for money. We are talking about 50% difference unless you compare Bangkok to Saigon in costs.

Thailand does have some crazy prices. Example 400 baht bunk bed. I think the dopey backpackers dont know a proper room is only 550 baht.

90 baht coffee in one place, 30 baht in another.

VS 2-3$ in VN including a few free beers and a pot of coffee or tea for just 1$

I normally pay 60 to 80 baht for a curry. Coffee shops i found some 20 to 35 baht.

People need to shop around.

... and many many more foreigners (not necessarily grumpy or old) still here and living comfortably / happily with their Thai wife and kids.

Some with Permanent Residence (me), others doing the necessary yearly visa renewal, not necessarily all that difficult. And in many countries the gaining of initial visa and the renewal much more complex / daunting compared to LOS.

Nah, I am saying if THAILAND costs you 10% are you outa here?

And where to? I hear Serbia is filling up fast.

This is not about money. If it was I would have been whinging and whining long time ago about the price of national parks and the inevitable increases of English breakfast in Pattaya.

I think you are enjoying putting this down on me being broke hence that is why I am leaving. And you seem to care so much because you are one of the most active poster on this thread.

Enjoying the attention!

I like your snarky comments. I formed an opinion because......you post a lot too.

And posting isn't bad or a sign of personal failure. It's just something people do. It's no biggie.

I have no idea what your financial status is. If you're a big deal in Serbia, I think that's great. Sort of like being the world's tallest midget.
