Shingrix (shingles vaccine) available in Thailand now

I suppose with something so cutting edge it is inevitable that the price will be almost the same as the price in the United States.

The price is around 6,000 baht per dose at Walmart in the USA on the goodRX drug price comparison site.

Thanks, this is very useful information. I recently got the first shot in New York (paid by insurance), but probably won't be back there during the recommended window for the second. It's great that I can get it here instead.

Does anyone know if this is avaliable in Chiang Mai or Chiang Rai? The last time I looked into getting a shingles vaccine in CM only SKYZoster  was available.

SKYZoster is that not as good as Shingrix as only one dose required with SKYZoster.

Yes, I know that Ram Hospital has it, at their Check-In Clinic for 6500 baht per shot. I am going there tomorrow for my shot.

Cost me $208 at Walmart with Good rx a few months ago i.e. over 7,000 baht.

I didn't think to get a GoodRX coupon, so I had to pay $225 at CVS in LA.

Your arm will definitely be sore for a couple of days after a Shingrix innoculation.

Second this

Covid shots, bit of a sore arm, flu shots nothing

Shingrix kicked my butt, headache, nausea, weakness for 2 days.

2nd shot the injection area swelled up a large amount

I had a sore arm, nothing more.

YMMV

For anyone who's had shingles, and then had Shingrix, is it worth it? Will it reduce shingles occurrences to near zero?

I have had the other Shingles vaccine (Zostervax) about 3.5 years ago  and it only helped a little I think.

See  https://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/vpd/shingles/public/shingrix/index.html  -- it's an awfully good vaccine.

And public service message for all you oldsters out getting Shingrix shots:  strongly consider getting the pneumonia series as well (two different mixes, one year apart).   If you ever wind up in the hospital -- especially if you're on a ventilator -- pneumonia is what'll kill ya'.   Available at Thai Travel Clinic and fine hospitals everywhere.

Shingles vaccines aren't recommended for children. They are intended for people 50+.

If she hasn't already had chicken pox, there is a difference vaccine for that.

Is this Shingrix recommended for younger people as well? Daughter 16?

As far as I know it is recommended for people over 50 years of age, but I am not a doctor.

Recommendations vary a bit from country to country.

Over 60, over 65...

Definitely not for people under 50.

Yes, in my country it is recommended over fifty years of age I will get my shot ones I come back from Thailand end of next month. Free for me because I'm on OAP. Have no problems getting a shot, had 4 Covid ones plus my yearly Flu ones no problems at all not even a sore arm.
