save the frogs
I haven't had time to read the thread OP nor the posts, except for one post that mentioned drivel. Regarding "drivel", what is drivel? Do you honestly think that all of Trump's tweets are NOT drivel? So if the president of the US posts drivel, why do you expect the average person not to? Also, it's much more dangerous when people cling to every word Trump says, as opposed to a clown on AN, where everyone knows it's drivel and the person is a nobody that no one listens to anyway. A bit of goofballing around is ok as most people are too serious anyway.

Popular Post observer90210
How can one claim to hold the holy truth on what is worthy or not to be discussed if in a civil and polite manner ? One chap thinking he is the smartest in the hood, may appear as a rude and arrogant fool to another and the other way round. Same for the topics. Some may find him or her boring or foolish but for others they could be divine lifesavers, Same for differences on politics. Some may applause Trump and others Biden. In a democracy, that is fully their right - no rocket science. Are they are also going to get posts deleted, banned or warned just out of a political difference ? Of course not as ASEAN is open minded...hopefully :-) How can one consider baning people plainly on the topics they post or their ideas (provided within the law of course) ? I far more enjoy reading Bob Smith then somebody else thinking he is giving lecture in geopolitics in a Harvard Amphitheater ? Some boring comments in my view that often could be rubbish depsite the 89'448 posts but to others it could be the post of the day. Unless one wants this place to be empty, numbers to drop and loose market value, filled just with the old timers arguing on the number of posts they have, that give them a sense of "this or that" and ranting against any newcommer or anybody with interesting stuff to post.....well IMHO, no way for me and probably for many others. I once got suspended years ago, just because "God" on duty-forum patrol, considered that I had to many posts....no other reason. I would only delete posts with arrogant, rude or uncouth comments, from some thinking they run the show, or either belive themselves to be the grammar police or feel like columist critics towards other people's posts/topics. Same for the racist extremists obviously who have no place in a public forum. With full respect to moderating any forum, deleting a post plainly on the "off topic" excuse, or the "nonsense comment excuse" has no sense and liveability in a forum and posters will just stop comming. Thank you. 3 1 1

Popular Post Bkk Brian
This whole thing about putting people on ignore, encouraging others to do it or threatening to put people on ignore is all snowflake stuff. There are no kids here, this is an adult forum, if you don't like the posts from a member then just ignore them for that particular topic. Personally I find those using the ignore in world news topics try to have it as a free pass so they don't get challenged to any misinformation they spew. That's ok, they can still be responded to whether they have you on ignore or not. What I've also found is that those who can be utterly disruptive for whatever reason in one topic, can add lots of value to the forum in other topics. If you have them on ignore you miss their best stuff. 2 1 2
Prubangboy
The frequency of these discussions means that people value this venue. I do too. To talk to someone about their life here or get practical advice is great, partic for free. I enjoy doing the same. If someone wants to fight all of the time, they're some version of not right in the head and I give 'em a miss. I just parma-nixed someone today. If I had the technical acumen to block him.....I still wouldn't. It's all part of the unique mix. If people want to post about their elbow, I have no problem with that. If I have a passable elbow joke to toss out, I will. If not, I'll sticker on a few emoji's supporting other elbow-mockers and then go back to Slate. I can't think of a fourth rule for Internet behavior. I mean, duh.

Popular Post newnative
I personally feel less is more in the way of moderation/changes. Some of the topics posted by members may be considered frivolous by some other members but, if it seems like a frivolous topic, just ignore it. I've found some of them to be actually interesting and I've posted my thoughts on some of them. I, myself, don't mind at all if sometimes a thread meanders off-topic--sometimes those threads can be some of the most interesting and fun ones. I frown a bit when I read the message, 'Some off-topic posts have been removed.' What did I miss? If someone bothers to take the time to post, I think the posts should remain, unless they are in violation of Forum rules. Also, there is sometimes a fine line between what might be considered bickering by some and lively debate by others. When in doubt, consider the posts to be lively debate and keep them. I feel very fortunate that we have such a thing as AN here. It keeps me up-to-date on Thailand and other news, and, especially, on things that can impact my life living here. I heard about the proposed tax changes here, before anywhere else, for example. It was a fount of helpful information when I was first learning how to file my 90-day reports on-line--starting with telling me there was now such a thing I could use to avoid treks to Immigration. Sheryl, of course, is always so patient, helpful, and informed on health issues--so lucky to have her. And, she's just one example. There are others who also step in and help with other issues and topics. I wouldn't change too much.
