Thai government has to open their eyes. In many poorer countries China tries to extend her influence. In several cases they "buy" influence by financing bigger projects like infrastructure, opening factories, etc. The CEO's are Chinese, so decisions are given out of hands.

Who's asinine idea was this? This is Thailand not Chailand!!! Aside from which, do you really believe they will send the police? They will send every blasted spy they can lay their hand on, aside from which, Chinese, well at least the clever ones, will be coming here to escape the clutches of the fascist state of the CCP. If they know they are being watched, do you think the tourists will come? For the ones with brains, the Chinese will go to the UK, Malaysia, Indonesia etc etc.

 

China IS a fascist state. While we are at it, since the Lao people are ethnically Thai and they are being screwed by the Chinese Belt and Raod machine, perhaps, instead of flushing 500bn baht down the drain with the digital wallet scheme, they should consider bailing out the Lao government and preventing Laos slipping into the Chinese orbit as a province which would be a disaster for Thailand and Laos.

The chinese tried this tactic in new york.  They even had their own police stations set up.  This was not to protect Chinese tourists. This was aimed at controlling anti CCP sentiment from groups like Falun Gong.  This is the most hideous form of autocracy you could imagine.  The thought police from your country operating in a foreign land to keep you in line.

Protecting Chinese Nationals... really are your people that blue eyed? In Europe they are having problems with undercover Chinese police or agent illegally monitoring Chinese Nationals on foreign soil...picture that.

The Chinese police would NOT be "protecting tourists" or "easing fears" or any other such nonsense.

Their entire purpose would be to spy on their nationals and report their activities back to Beijing.

Who is doing what, where, why and with who.

And it's not about criminals. It's about watching if certain individuals are trying to move money out of China, or making connections with people that the Communist Party might consider a threat, or "making noises" about "freedom" and such.

Less than a year ago someone reported a baker in Hong Kong that made a "Tiananmen Square" birthday cake. He was arrested !

In another case from June 2022 - just before the anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre :

"Li Jiaqi, a household name in China whose shows regularly draw millions of viewers, had his broadcast abruptly cut on Friday when he appeared to present an ice-cream cake with chocolate decorations that looked like a tank, hours before the anniversary began.

He has posted nothing since that show, and some search results for his name were being censored. He failed to appear for a scheduled show on Sunday."

This post is probably being flagged right now for using "Tiananmen Square".

Why ? Because AseanNow is (now) based out of Hong Kong and Chinese cyber laws dictate that they have full access over all Chinese (including Hong Kong) media outlets.
The Chinese closed down the last "free press" media site in Hong Kong a few years ago so now, every media site (based in Hong Kong) can be monitored by them and the  content restricted if they so choose.

And it was reported (in some Western countries like Canada) that the police there had discovered the Chinese had set up their own "Police Stations" to monitor (and spy) on Chinese people in those countries. Without telling the host country of course.

And the timing of this news is interesting, considering it comes not long after a certain criminal returned to Thailand and is (allegedly) running the country now from the shadows.

It won't have any effect. Thai taxi driver rips off a tourist. Altercation starts. Tourist gets jumped by 4 natives. Chinese police arrive and demand action is taken against the natives...will the RTP listen and take action against the natives? Not a chance.

Didn't this train leave the station long ago? Thailand has been in cahoots with Chinese security overlaods for awhile. Most striking recent case was the picture of blindfolded Uyghurs with CCP escorts sent on 1 or 2 planes from Thailand back to China for who knows what punishment. Many believe the Erawan Shrine terrorist attack in 2015 was in retaliation.

It has been reported over the last year that the Chinese have established undercover police stations in the US, Caanada, Europe and a few other countries. These are suppose to be Chinese outreach centers to assist Chinese citizens to take care of business back home. But it was reported that they were being used to intimidate there citizens to get some to return to Chins were charges were filled aganist them. Probably these police station exsist in Thailand

Never had a verbal/physical with a Chinese copper in 13 years. Got chatty with the SWAT guys who hung around the underground station near my house, after a few pints.

 

They mind their own. They'll also be without sidearms here, so I guess they're really just "Foreign Police".

 

Had a friend beat the living crap out of four of them back in China, Xiamen, when they got in his face on a quiet street (back in 2005). He was offered jail time or deportation. He left the country.

 

Foreigners will look ignore them. Chinese will do the same.

 

*That said, I never had a negative interaction with a Chinese copper in 13 years, nor a Taiwanese copper in 3 years (wait, did get feisty with some TWN traffic coppers one night). And I was a blustery 20-30 something. Actually got a great selfie of me getting a lift home from a copshop after a taxi driver was pulling tricks, and I told him to pull into the (Chinese police) station. The cops hauled him over the coals, and took me home. He stayed.
