Trump claims he is ‘seriously’ looking at ObamaCare alternatives

Former President Trump over the weekend revived his calls to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act if he wins the 2024 presidential election. 

In a Truth Social post, the leading GOP presidential candidate claimed he’s “seriously looking at alternatives” to replace ObamaCare, and that the failure to repeal the health law in 2017 while he was in office was “a low point for the Republican Party.” 

 

Republicans were one vote away from repealing the law in 2017 after the late Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) voted with Democrats to keep ObamaCare in place. Ever since, Trump has knocked and mocked McCain, even years after the senator’s death from brain cancer.

 

Democrats retook control of the House in 2018 after making the GOP repeal efforts the center of their campaigns, promising to protect Americans from losing coverage for preexisting conditions. 

Trump reinjecting life into the health care debate could backfire for Republicans, who have largely given up campaigning against ObamaCare, an acknowledgment that health care is a losing issue for them. 

Three GOP-led attempts to repeal the law through the courts have also failed, including one backed by Trump in 2020.

“We had a couple of Republican Senators who campaigned for 6 years against it, and then raised their hands not to terminate it. It was a low point for the Republican Party, but we should never give up!” Trump said.

Just like abortion, health care is a losing issue for the GOP because they have no alternative.  Nothing.  It's like their slogan is "put us back in office and we'll make sure you have no healthcare.  Promise!"  But Trump must think this is a winning issue for him because his supporters are idiots.  Well, perhaps he's got that one pegged.

The supreme court didn't strip anyone if any rights.  What it did was simply state that this was something that everyone should have a say in each state.

 

Last time I looked women have the right to vote and elect politicians to represent their desires.  Therefore if a woman can not get an abortion where she wants it is her state government that's stopping her.

Wasn’t he going to introduce a ‘much better’ health care plan while he was president, and the GOP had control of both the House and the Senate? Hmm, I wonder what happened there. 
Like almost everything Trump says and claims and promises, it’s just hot air, empty promises, tooting his own horn, taking credit for things he had nothing to do with, blaming everybody and their uncle for things he himself was responsible for, or just flat out lies. On the other hand the health care and pharma businesses are rolling in dough from the hikes in medical costs since the it looked like the ACA was going to happen.  The GOP desire to scrap ACA or anything like it is a religious quest, the "no nothing for nobody" ideal.  On the other hand the medical businesses are lining the politicians pockets (both parties), so principles be damned.

In 2019, Trump selected Rick Scott as his czar to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act.

 

This was paradoxical because Scott’s company had previously been fined $1.7 billion by the Department of Justice for defrauding government health care programs.

 

Appointing Scott was akin to letting a fox guard the hen house, a move characteristic of Trump’s idiocratic and kleptocractic administration.

Given the high level of gerrymandering in Republican states democracy is a dubious proposition when it comes to legislation. On the other hand, in those Republican states where the right to an abortion was voted on via referenda, the proposition won every time.
