A Burmese boy has been rescued after nearly drowning in a Phuket lagoon, while a Thai boy is still missing. The Phuket Express reports that local residents managed to pull one child from the lagoon, which is in the northern sub-district of Srisoontorn.

Phuket has hundreds of old tin mines which have since filled up with water, littering the province with man-made lakes with little deterrent for swimmers.

The authorities were notified after midday yesterday, December 5, and rescue workers arrived at the lagoon in the village of Bang Maruan. There they found the Burmese boy who had been pulled from the water. He was rushed to hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.

Lakes are a magnet to some... if you cannot swim well stay away.

one still missing ....  very sad indeed.   why they venture in knowing full well they can't swim ....   that thought doesn't cross their minds at the time.
