Last night I had two pints of 4% beer. First drink in months. By midnight I felt like I had drunk 6! Horrible feeling and definitely not worth it. At least for me, being over 50 seems to make alcohol a low return activity.

It knocks me around cause I cut back. Alcos think 6 is nothing.

Once a week works well, otherwise it becomes a habit, many alcoholics in Thailand, most in denial

I'm just here to clarify for those who may be unsure... denial is not a river in Egypt....

I'm thinking of changing to ganja, my liver is getting angry with me.

How's the effects, 1 joint a night similar to a 6 pack of beer for a good time?

it can be like that yes.

Ethanol is ethanol, irrespective of whether it is in beer at 4%, or spirits at 40%. The only reason i can think of for avoiding spirits is, when drunk neat, they are more damaging to the esophagus and stomach.

Correct,

And when I had an operation in 2004 at Bumringrad Hospital for throat cancer, the doctors told me not to drink spirits.

If you need alcohol at home to feel good, you should urgently see a doctor.

I drink alcohol when I'm out and about, as it enhances sociability, but I don't see how that would be beneficial at home

You're preaching to the wrong guy.
I don't drink alcohol at home.

BTW, Dr Ben
Am I allowed to drink alcohol at night time, say, with the gf enjoying a meal at the restaurant or on the odd occasion out with my mates at a girly bar?

Please Note,

At home......its my gf job to make me feel good. 😎

Really? I would think closer to 88 years ago... that 12 step thing started in 1935... Regardless... just as true today as when first spoken...
