To me it's the fact that Georgina Spelvin is still going strong.

Agree 100%. I hung on in my marriage for 2 years longer than I should have in HOPE that she would become again the lovely woman I married. She didn't and I was worse off for the extra time in a HOPELE

Nothing. I have no hope for the future, or of mankind. Of dust we were made, to dust we will return.

We should have a new section in this forum:

What comes to your mind after you had a couple of drinks?

Or: Don't enter if you are sober.

Chokdee

Waking up ...

... ever better, still with a bit of wood.

Celebrities dying much older, instead of much younger than myself.

Brother just celebrated his 76th birthday, and a cousin is 84. I'm 10 days shy of 69, so all looking good.

Beyond myself & happy family .. not much hope at all.  Tyranny will only get worse in the western developed countries.   Wars will still by profitable, and death still a billion $$$ business.

Division of the Hi & LoSo widening, middle class disappearing, along with freedoms lost.  Total control of your digital money, and freedom of movement.

Best to be in a 3rd world country such as TH, as not ready to utilize all these controls, at least for another 10 years.

If you're still in the west/G20, soon to be digital money countries ....

... you're F'd

Georgina Spelvin was a gay woman. Prob still is. I have shaken her hand.

Hope is expectation. Expectation is just disappointment in waiting.

On RedPill they talk about copium, stuff you talk yourself into believing to make yourself feel better. Don't be that guy.

I have shaken my hand too

On a divorce board I moderated, the big theme was Hope Is Your Enemy.

And as many an expat here will agree, it absolutely was.

Me is that do not know who Georgina Spelvin is.

The future... Things can only get better!

In a few minutes going to have my first cup of coffee for today - things are looking up. Pinched a nerve in my back last week - slowly getting better. Planning my next holiday - good things to come my way. Smart investments - finances getting better (wait, no, not today actually), never mind...

I don't hope for anything any more, and my expectations are that my life will just get slowly worse till I escape from it.

No need to comment, as I'm old, and have no prospects of getting younger. Being old really, really sucks.

You're way my patient than I ever was.

#1 only lasted about 2 years

#2 almost 1 year

#3 about 1 year (TH)

#4 still going strong 17+ years later, 9 married.  Finally learned from previous mistakes.  Live together before marriage.

I have no patience for other people.  Always hope for better, whether partner, job, living area.  People get stuck and seem to accept it as normal.   Screw that.

Never give up hope, and move on ... Next :coffee1:

I had incentive to be so.

She was my last hope for a happy marriage. I was never going to go through that again.

Staying married was the only way I could remain in LOS.

Of the 2 the latter became the more important as the marriage foundered, but alas, the marriage and the life in Thailand ended, to my everlasting dismay.

Are you an example of 4th time lucky? I gave up on women as partners after the second failure. I'll cut them off before I do that again.

However it's not like I have any temptation to try again. The number of interesting and likable women in my life- ZERO.

Just as an example of the <deleted> I have to put up with, being a derelict old crock, is that yesterday I developed both sciatica in my leg and gout in my elbow. Either is bad enough, but to get both at the same time is just awful.

The sciatica can be treated at a cost ( not covered by public health ), but the gout can only be endured.

If you have your health, you have everything. And like many others aged mid 70's, mine breaks in various ways, more frequently than it used to. But you fix it and afterwards feel better and move forward, onwards and upwards. This year I tore two retina's, had my thyroid removed and my S4/S5 disc prolapsed. But now I've fixed those things and in another 30 minutes, when the sun comes up I'm going for a run. Life is good, you have to enjoy it while you can. Onwards and upwards.

Sciatica is pressure on the sciatic nerve from S4/S5 and S5/L1 and spinal degeneration most likely. DON'T have the operation, 9 out of 10 resolve with time and therapy. A month ago the surgeon wanted 350k to operate but it's not necessary. Buy a heating pad and lay on, do bird dog back strengthening exercises, find a decent therapist and get ultrasound and electric treatment, it's not expensive and it works, I know it does.

Apparently, as 17+ yrs on.  Didn't get married till living together for 8 yrs, so not much of decision, and simply paperwork.

Definitely surprised me, as swore off long term relationships, for the 3rd time, after #3.   I think daughter needing a female around motivated me a bit more than I would have, if not playing single parent.

Was enjoying being single on the weekends, while daughter hung out with grandparents, and even had 2 GFs (not live ins, and short lived) in between the weekend one night stands, till met #4.

Wasn't even looking for a relationship with #4, but after 8 yrs living together, couldn't think of a reason not to get married, as much as I state, 'no reason for anyone to get married' ...

If back in USA, then no, marriage would never have happened.  Men have no protection over there.  Some paperwork protects your assets here, at least the illusion of.

If not living together here for 8 yrs already, then getting married in TH, wouldn't have happened either.

Thanks for the advice. I wouldn't be able to afford the op anyway and I'd be dead before I got it on the public health it's so useless now.

I'll just pay the chiropractor with magic fingers. I thought I was dying of pain in the other leg, but he sorted me. Apparently I had had a distorted spine and misaligned pelvis for years, and he fixed both for my relief. Yes it was true as he did x rays and fixing my pelvis sorted a chronic problem I'd had for years.

Like you say, it'll be age related spinal degeneration, caused by a hard life of lifting a lot of heavy things.

I'll get one of those heating pads

Shares are going back up ,but regardless of finances we have limited time anyway

You picked smart investment instead of smart health, interesting .

I went to see a Osteopath instead of the chiropractor, not that I could see any different though ,

Your back needs to be walked on

Try some of these, slowly. If you make your back muscles strong, they will support your spine and you'll overcome the problems.

Nothing so dramatic, just old age! I woke up one morning with a huge floater in the center of my vision, it took two weeks before the opthamologist decided it was torn and repaired it with a laser...that was fun, like somebody using a rivet gun in your brain. Second one, pretty much the same thing, at least that time I knew what it was.

When I see that Chang is not empty in Makro, and Jack Daniels still taste the same.

I don't care much about money, as long as I have enough to pay my bills. And it's not like I pinched a nerve on purpose. LOL

Indeed if I were in Thailand my GF/ wife would have done so, but in the west a woman doing that would likely kill me or leave me paralyzed.
