Thailand Eyes Direct Flights from US Amid Growing Tourist Demand
The upgrade to Category 1 is what matters here. Category 1: • Indicates that the country’s aviation authority meets ICAO standards for safety oversight. • Airlines from Category 1 countries can initiate new service to the U.S. and maintain existing operations without additional restrictions. • A Category 1 rating demonstrates that the aviation authority effectively regulates safety, including air traffic control, pilot certification, aircraft maintenance, and operational procedures. -

71-Year-Old Man Crashes Into Teen Girl, Killing Her; Police Discover 400 Meth Pills in Car
Picture from responders. A 71-year-old driver struck and killed a 16-year-old girl in a tragic car accident, with police later discovering 400 methamphetamine pills hidden in his vehicle. The accident occurred at 17:00 on December 6, on the Udon Thani-Ban Chiang Yuen road near Ban Lueam Bridge, Ban Lueam Subdistrict, Mueang District, Udon Thani. Police Sub-Lieutenant Prem Triamtua, an investigator from the Udon Thani Police Station, responded to the incident alongside medical personnel and rescue teams from the Udon Thani Promotion Foundation. At the scene, authorities found a white Ford Fiesta, license plate from Udon Thani, with front-end damage parked on the bridge. Tragically, 16-year-old Patcharin, a resident of Chiang Pheng Subdistrict, was found dead at the base of the bridge. Her friend, 17-year-old Ananta, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Udon Thani Central Hospital for emergency treatment. According to witnesses, the two teenagers were traveling to the Thung Si Mueang Festival when the crash occurred. The vehicle reportedly struck their motorcycle, leading to the fatality. While examining the car, police were stunned to discover approximately 400 methamphetamine pills, stored in blue and pink packets, under the driver’s seat. Investigators immediately detained the driver for further questioning. The driver, identified as Chanyut, a 71-year-old resident of Ban Na Sai Village, claimed the crash occurred as he was slowing down to cross the intersection. He alleged that the motorbike was speeding, resulting in the collision. Tearfully apologising to the victims’ families, he insisted the crash was unintentional. Regarding the drugs found in his car, Chanyut denied any knowledge, claiming he had no idea how they ended up there. “If they were mine, I would’ve fled already,” he added. Police have detained Chanyut for further investigation and will expand their probe into the source of the drugs. -- 2024-12-07 -
