Dual pricing .

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

I intended to stay in a 5 star hotel toning and found one for 4,111 Baht for the night and I went to book and it stated the price was for Thai Nationals only.

I looked at the same room unticking the "Thai National" box and the room was 5.600 Baht .

Thats the first time in Thailand that I've experienced dual pricing and I decided not to use that hotel tonight or any other night .

Like , why should I pay more for a room than a Thai would ?

Its it quite common for hotels to have dual pricing ?

I will just stay at home now and not bother going out to a hotel

That hotel had certain amenities that no other hotel in town have and that was the main reason for decided to stay out for the night  .

Maybe the price for Thais was lower because Thais would not use those amenities that foreigners would use?

No, the amenities were free to hotel guests

Cable TV and coffee?

I have never experienced it, but I understand why it might cost a bit more to accommodate foreigners. Maybe they don't want non-Thais.

Why would it cost more to accommodate Non Thais  ?

Are Thais different to everyone else ?

I said might cost more, but off the top of my head I'd say having multi-lingual staff, Immigration requirements, probably more air-conditioning, perhaps more damage, more complaints, the list is endless.

The staff at the hotel could barely speak any English , reporting TM30s is free and takes minutes , I don't use more air con than a Thai would and I would have to pay for any damage caused . Thais seem to cause more complaints with their inconsiderate behaviour (from me, anyway)

It's either free or it takes minutes, it can't be both.

Perhaps, but were talking averages. I doubt there's a Thai in the country that uses as much air-con as me. The staff used to put their "winter" coats on to come in my office,

Again, that's you.

Yes, but they know what the Thais are complaining about an can do something about it. When non-Thia is in the lobby flailing their arms around making that awful noise, and they just get louder ever time the staff smiles and says solly.

Its not a problem for me .

I will happily stay at home and keep my 5500 Baht in my pocket and not bother with 5 * hotel accommodation and we could do with some heaters here as its rather cold at the moment

It was just a deal for Thais, dual pricing is everywhere, golf courses often have cheaper deals for Thais.

I boycott dual pricing places

Yeah, not a problem be me either. If I want to go I pay, if I don't, I don't.

I already have one heater too many.

Doesn't bother me. A lot of it in the US as well.

I don't. I like getting the senior discount at the movies, and my wife has to pay full price.

Would you guys that are outraged about dual pricing not go to a bar because drinks were half-price for women?

  Keep it relevant

The true comparison would be , that would you go to a bar where Thais get cheaper drinks ?

This is about Nationality, rather than age or gender .

BTW, I am not outraged , I just thought that it was unfair and decided not to go .

As I had 5000 Baht spare  , I gave it to a young woman begging on the streets with a baby .

When I tried to book into the hotel , I tried to book for one adult and one juvenile , but it was the same price as for two adults

Yes, I would go to a bar where drinks were cheaper for Thai. Actually, think I would see the dual pricing as an attraction.

So you support dual pricing based on age and gender. What about pay?

You really showed them. Did you have a good time?

I try to not to get too caught up in what's fair and what's not.

Was it fair that you gave money to one beggar and not another? Do you think it helped or hurt her?

To help offset the cost of language lessons for the staff, and the training to deal with endless Western whining. :)

Maybe they are just greedy Thais and have little or no idea!

The hotel staff couldn't speak English, so why should I pay for them to speak English ?

Thats another reason why I should pay normal price and not pay extra

All the bars I visit want twice the price for the locals drinks (aka lady drinks).

Yes, but you are paying them to sit next to you, so you are paying for a service .

You are paying to have friends , that's a different situation

I don't think 'friends' is the right word, women aren't my friends.

OK, so you are paying a woman  to sit next to you and to not be your friend .

You could save your money and go and sit next to a woman on a bus or train or something

So, by your logic, foreigners who speak Thai should get Thai price.

Air con? 7 elevens are usually freezing. Inter provincial busses the same. Sleeper train the same. All accommodating mostly Thais, who want it that way.

So there should be 2 tick boxes.

1. Thai.

2. Foreigners who speak Thai.

OK. you can pay extra because of your Nationality, that's your choice and up to you .

I didn't mention anything about supporting dual pricing on age or gender , I just don't think that the price should depend on a persona Nationality .

Yes, I am pleased  that I didn't stay in the dual priced hotel .

My choice who to give my money to and the money was used by the Woman to go home for the holidays
