Inspired by the article below I wonder how many bad guy you know.

Do you keep contact with criminals?

Do you stay away from anybody who you discovered is a criminal or was a criminal?

I know a couple of criminals. As far as I am aware they are all ex-criminals, with and without jail time.

At least two guys I know where in jail, and at least two others would be for many years in jail if the authorities would convict them.

How I "like" them depends on their crimes. I.e. one guy is an ex-boiler-room boss. He has the money which lots of idiots invested in one of those get rich quick schemes. I don't really care too much about the idiots who lost their money.

Another guy was an international arms dealer. Not really a problem for me, he did what countries like the USA do all the time.

I don't know any murderer or rapist, at least I am not aware of anybody. I guess I wouldn't want to hang around with people like that. But then, I don't think I ever talked to any criminal like that. Maybe some of them are nice guys.

How about you?

I have to admit I also rode my bike too fast maybe one or two times.

But those are not the crimes which I had in mind in above poll.

Apart from myself,

I knew a gang of Brit armed robbers, worked in the UK, spent the money in Thailand.

And two major drug distributors (one UK based, one Europe based), retired in Thailand.

They were all really nice guys, obviously you wouldn't go picking arguments with them.

One offered to have some of his gang drive down from London and kill my estranged Brit wife for me.

Knew several drug dealers and weed growers in the UK, all friendly and helpful.

I also knew 2 corrupt police officers in the UK, not sure if you would count them as criminals.

Depends on the crime, and yes, I know more than a few, inclusive if I look in the mirror :cheesy:

Sex involving minors ... want nothing to do with you.  Along with:

... hard drug dealer

... woman abuser

... child abuser, any manner

... thief

... alcohol addicted

... drug addicts

... any predator behavior, causing harm to anyone, in any way

... scammers that affect me & mine, in any way (includes Imm scammers)

I'm confused by your reference to the 'Epstein Papers'.

Was Stephen Hawking a criminal?

How about Oprah Winfrey?

Does being tenuously associated with Epstein make them all criminals?  Guilty by association?

I suspect that there are far more criminals in 1 square km of Pattaya than on that list.

With the myriad of laws on the books everywhere, I'm sure most people have committed a crime at some point in their lives, they just haven't been caught.

Don't be confused.

What you write is basically my question.

I don't think a person is a criminal because he/she knows any criminals.

I also find it interesting that many people want that we should treat people who were in jail, and "paid" for their crimes, should be treated like normal people after this. After all, they were already in jail.

But then, it seems many people, see article linked above, think we should not socialize with anybody who was convicted of a crime.

It's strange, and inconsistent.

P.S.: Obviously we can all choose our own friends. We don't have to be friends with criminals. But then, we also have to be friends with people who never committed any crimes. Personally, I think we should make all our own individual choices.

I actually DO know four criminals.....

And...

Not one bit saintly, either.

Actually, one of my classmates, and friends, went to prison at age 21.

From there.....

He graduated to a double homicide.

Then, on the same day, during a police chase...

He shot himself....

DEAD.

Is this what you were asking?

Other classmates went to Princeton, Harvard, Cornell, and some even went on to be big guns at Morgan Stanley.

Hard to comprehend....really....what went wrong with this one guy.

I’m not aware of any criminals that I may know, and would like to keep it that way as I have zero tolerance for criminal activity.

I’ve known a few criminals. Real criminals.

Years ago, I spent two years in the Army. One of the first people I met was a real schemer.  Every day, he had some sort of a scam going. That was simply how he operated. That was his mindset. I’ll call him Frank. Anyway, it all eventually caught up with him and a bunch of people ended up with a General Court Martial. Long story.  But his scheme was so good all the charges were dismissed. They couldn’t prove anything.

Fast forward a few years and I ran across him in New York City. A mafia guy at that point, loan sharking and other activities. He tried to get me involved, but I figured I’d better stop talking to him.  I didn’t want to end up in prison or dead. And that’s what eventually happens to those guys.

Back in the late 90s I ran SMS sex-chat services in the UK (I wrote the software).  I also rented out and managed my software for companies running the premium-rate telephone line services.  I got to meet the bosses on several occasions and they were 'real' and hard London Eastenders.  But they were also family guys and very nice and polite people, so long as you didn't cross them.

On one occasion, they invited me down to a private party at Madrid's most famous lap-dancing club (they paid the 1st class airfare).  When I arrived alone at the party, the boss greeted me, snapped his fingers and a naked lap-dancer jumped into my lap 🙂  Ah good times!

What exactly is a criminal? Someone who breaks the laws of the country he/she lives in? I have broken laws,  laws that I don't agree with, but not laws that affect the ordinary person in a negative way. So am I a criminal?

Yes, a couple.

No pervs, violent or predator type.  None active that I know of.   Buddy is 'active' only because where he lives, ganga isn't legal.

A few drug smugglers, and one deceased drug smugglers and bank robber. I have no contact with them today. Contact stopped when they where busted.

I have met many criminals through extreme sport environment, and some drop zones in Florida was well known to use their planes for pick up goods from  well known locations in SA.

Also met one of those who claimed to work for cia flying weapons out, and return with white  powder.

If I had those connections, I don't think I would be talking about it on the Net.......🙄

So I won't....:coffee1:

My father had a bar that ran numbers, but that's barely a crime.

I've know more addicts who stole things than any real, hardened crims.

If riding a motorbike without a helmet is a crime time to lock the whole of Thailand up.

An ex Great Train Robber and the girl in the blue top in the photo and her dad, to name but a few.

I had a couple of friends back in California who had prison records.  I didn't know this when I first got to know them, but after we became friends they told me.

One had embezzled tax money from a company that he worked for and the other one was caught smuggling a few tons of marijuana aboard his fishing boat.  Both of them were very straight and 100% honest in our business dealings because they really didn't want to go back to prison!

My wife did 4 weeks in a Malaysian prison for non-payment of a Ringgit 800 fine. I suppose that makes her a criminal for some.

Someone I knew at Unil I was shocked to find he ended up doing 3.5 years when as a school teacher he sexted a 15 year old.
