Thai university student escapes attempted rape in dormitory

A Thai university student narrowly escaped an attempted rape in her dormitory in the Isaan province of Khon Kaen thanks to the help of her roommate.

The victim, a 19 year old woman named Wirakarn, told Channel 7 that the incident happened at around 9pm on Monday, January 15. She was waiting for the lift to go to her room on the 15th floor of her dormitory building and noticed a suspicious man in a red shirt waiting for the lift nearby.

Wirakarn explained that she felt like the man stalked her since she was outside the dormitory. Normally, dorm residents are required to have a keycard to enter the dorm. However, the keycard system was broken that day and the front door was left open allowing the man to enter.

Wirakarn immediately texted her roommate about the suspect and decided not to get in the lift alone with the man. While she was waiting, another Thai man who lived on the same floor as her arrived. So, Wirakarn got in the lift, thinking it would be safer to be with another man.

Headline should be "girl feels nervous" as nothing else happened let alone attempted rape.

Then you follow the link and it's all different.

Why did she open her door knowing the man was right beside her (room mate or not). The guy might have had a knife.

"the keycard system was broken that day ".....and probably has been that way for some time. Maintenance rarely attended to quickly.

Why blur his face out? Fleeing pulling up his trousers it is obvious what he attempted and with her friend as a witness.

So this guy was waiting by the elevator and they will go got freaked out then a guy that you knew on the floor came so they went on the elevator together, so where is the attempt rape or maybe I missed reading something TIT

If you would have gone to the Full story: The Thaiger 2024-01-20, you would have read this:

When the lift reached the 15th floor, all three got out and the male resident went to his room. She was left alone in the corridor with the suspicious man, and what she feared happened.

As soon as Wirakarn opened her room door, the suspicious man approached her and pushed her into the room. Fortunately, Wirakarn’s roommate was ready and waited for her in the room. The roommate’s presence startled the man and he fled.

The headline for this article is totally incorrect.  How does she know that the man had intentions to rape her?  Maybe he lives there too.  Perhaps he is waiting for a friend of his that lives there.  Maybe he wasn't going to rape her but just rob her.  Maybe he wasn't going to do anything.  She was smart to text her roommate and wait to get on the lift with someone that she recognized since she felt uncomfortable.

Perhaps ASEAN Now should do a better job of including the important parts of the report so that the headline matches the story that they report without having to click to another source.

She walked in and left the door open.  They all do it.  Enjoy your karma.  The signs in these buildings clearly tell you to shut the door.

No the doors are not ''broken''.  They leave it open so their classmates can sneak in.

Don't you think pushing her into the room as she opened her door and then dropping his trousers was a bit of a giveaway?

So she was thinking all this, but nothing was actually done buy the guy... What if she was just paranoid.

As I stated earlier, maybe they should post the full story so that the headline matches the story they post.
