Police as personal bodyguards / escorts - how much does it cost?

Unless they were wearing police uniforms, I doubt they were actual cops.

My misses pays 3kbht/month for police to patrol our housing estate 2x a day. Actually cheaper than the private security we previously used.

Whoa ... 36k a year.   That's a nice CCTV security system.  Times 10 years  :w00t: and don't think they can steal that much from the house, unless taking to ESSs with them :cheesy:

Think the CCTV would have a better chance of recovering anything, vs, PoPo taking a report.  Aside from most burglars, live nearby and usually know your routine and or, PoPo schedule for signing off their presence while making their rounds.

Only novice get caught, and they usually only take what they can carry on their scooter :cheesy:

Without wishing to go into details, my wife has had reason to hire police up in Udon on a few occasions. The price depends on the seniority of the officers and what you want them to do - might need quite a bit of back and forth negotiation. There is no 'rate for the job'.  If its recovering a debt they will likely expect a fee plus a percentage of the debt.

Yes paying for a service like that is an absolute wast of money.

The police like it,they make the round twice a day and it is a very nice extra income.

20 houses is 70 000 baht per month.

They were wearing police uniforms and also traffic police uniforms and they had their police car parked just behind the Bentley, therefore you would assume they were "actual cops"

3k/month to patrol 250 houses doesn't seem that expensive to me.

Is around 500-1000 baht per day for a <deleted>tier one and a few thousand for a good one with gun etc. Per day that is. Nothing unusual about that happening too, in fact, I guess half of the force makes money on the side in some way. I had one a few times myself as a armed driver, when people annoyed me.

I know a high up one too, he does this all the time, bringing CP lawyers to Isaan and back to Bangkok, while guarding them over the weekends.

How much is the going rate for cops to be personal bodyguards / escorts? Is it an hourly rate, daily rate or monthly rate?

I'm curious to know as it got me thinking after a few days ago I saw a few cops doing this for an elderly Chinese man getting out of his Bentley before leading him into his Chinese restaurant. I presume he's the owner of that Chinese restaurant right next to Royal Garden Plaza on 2nd Rd. The one with two expensive luxury cars parked in front of that restaurant. Anyone here knows the costs involved to hire their services?

you must be bored

Why hire a cop when you can hire an ex-soldier or, better, a Muay boxer?

Depends what the 'job' is and how much you need to keep the police 'on side'.  Years ago my late father-in-law walked into a busy restaurant and shot a guy through the head. Police never investigated and I guess that cost him a lot of money. He was close with the police up there (west side of Udon and over toward Ban Phue) and some dodgy stuff went on. They used to collect debts for him and so on.  If you want a bodyguard then, yes, a fit ex-soldier with a gun might be a better bet.

I am a Greek from Athens and I cannot inform you about the cost of guarding houses in beautiful Thailand but all I can tell you from a friend of mine who works as an escort guard on board merchant ships in the Arabian and African continent is that you are paid €2.500 (Thaibaht 95.800) per month.
In previous years they were paid €5,000 (Thaibaht 190,000) per month but payments have been reduced because the 24-hour security companies on merchant ships in order to reduse the cost they hire staff by the month rather than permanently.
Which means when the month of recruitment ends you are taken to the nearest port with other boats and stay in a 5 class hotel where you stay at your own expense or leave for your country.

At my house in Athens I have security doors with security special locker key (titanium protected) and aluminium windows with double glass with internal locker.

Furthermore if a criminal try to break window glass he will be injured because between the double window glass the technician pump argon gas for insulation, which makes a lot of noise when it breaks.

In the last few years I have installed external bars on the windows because I often travel for 8-9 months in Thailand where I work almost every year.

One time I made a mistake and I forgot my keys somewhere and I couldn't get into my house.
I called a skilled locksmith with special wolframium drills and makita tools to drill the lock on the door in order to get into my house.
It took 8 hours to drill the lock and destroyed over 7 wolframium drills.

One would think it's for 'contacts' within the police system.

Why not just go to the Soi 9 cop shop and ask?

Why hire an ex-soldier or a boxer with no authority to do anything when an armed police officer is available?

And perhaps who can legally carry a weapon. The idea of using a Muay Thai boxer was good, but they attract too much attention with no shirt, bright shiny shorts and that strange thing on their heads.
