Here's what we know so far about the Kansas City shooting

A day of celebration – to mark the Kansas City Chiefs' third Super Bowl victory in the last five years – turned into tragedy on Wednesday.

At least one person was killed and up to more than a dozen others were injured in a shooting after a rally near Union Station in Kansas City, Missouri, police said.

The shooting is at least the 48th mass shooting in the United States so far this year, according to the Gun Violence Archive.

Officials are expected to give another update soon on the investigation.

Here's what we know so far:

Victims: One person is dead and up to 15 others are wounded after the shooting, according to Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves. All Kansas City Chiefs players, coaches and staff are safe and accounted for, Mayor Quinton Lucas said.

What happened: The shooting erupted on the west side of Union Station, Graves said. When officers got there, they took two armed people into custody and immediately started helping people who were hurt. Officials are in the beginning stages of figuring out what happened, Graves said, and law enforcement is working to clear surrounding areas. The White House said President Joe Biden has been briefed and federal law enforcement is helping local law enforcement.

When will the US ever learn?

Too many politicians are on the NRA and gun manufacturers payroll.....

Ban guns, this will all stop or at the least make difficult to even own a gun.

Look at the countries around the world that have done this.

They have all reduced gun violence....

It will never happen here but that being said we could certainly strengthen background checks close gun show loopholes the gun owner must be trained and licensed ban semi and full auto long guns.personally I’d prefer if they left semi auto hand guns alone there is a place for them in home defense this whole tragedy sucks big time

Only 48 ... the year is starting off slow.

Yearly event during every celebration of a 'Championship' win, along with a riot and looting usually.   What better way to celebrate than the gift free sh!t :coffee1:

Guaranteed they're people who already aren't allowed to own or possess guns.  As if tighter gun control will keep guns away from the bad guys with multiple felonies on their records.

And how would YOU keep weapons away from the bad guys?

Right! Like prohibiting alcohol in the US totally got rif of alcohol! If you ban guns all that does is strengthen the already existing black market over there, but it won't stop gun crimes! It most likely wouldn't even put a dent in it.

They need to strengthen the laws and make changes to how guns are being kept in the US because most guns used in crimes were stolen from vehicles and broken into homes because they leave their guns laying around in their houses and cars, which makes for easy access.

When the second amendment was added to the constitution they did not have automatic weapons or RPG's. To be true to the constitution everyone should be allowed a single shot black powder gun and a sword. Shotguns and rifles for qualified hunters OK also. All the hand guns and military weapons need to be removed from society. You don't just take them from bad guys you take them from everybody the less guns in circulation the less shootings you will have.

Do you really think that will happen in the USA?

It hasn't happened in the last 250 years and it won't happen now.

How will you take them?

Just knock on the door and say please give me all your guns?

First you need to pass a federal law which cannot be superseded by any state law. That won't happen either.

So how would YOU collect all the guns?
