Delivery rider helps himself to water dispenser in Thai restaurant

A delivery rider sparked an outcry on social media after being captured filling his cup with water from a restaurant’s dispenser without permission.

 

The incident, which quickly became a hot topic online, began when an individual posted an image and message on the LINE Man Rider Thailand Facebook group. The post highlighted a delivery rider who was seen filling up their cup directly from a water dispenser inside a restaurant, without seeking consent from the staff. The caption expressed disbelief at the rider’s audacity to help themselves to the water in such a manner, mentioning that even when the staff voiced their disapproval, the rider continued undeterred.

 

Following the post, over 1,200 comments flooded in, with the majority criticizing the rider’s inappropriate behaviour and expressing concerns about the potential negative impact this could have on other delivery riders. The fear is that such actions might lead to stricter measures being imposed on all riders by the establishments they visit. Among the numerous comments, one stood out, urging riders to be aware of their actions and maintain their image, highlighting that legal action could be taken against such behaviour, reported KhaoSod.

 

The broader implications of the incident have caused a stir among netizens, who are calling on delivery riders to uphold a certain standard of professionalism to protect both their own and their colleagues’ reputations. As the conversation gains momentum, there is a collective appeal for individuals within the service industry to conduct themselves respectfully, especially when operating within the premises of other businesses.

In related news, a Thai delivery rider dodged a drug charge after a dealer tricked him into transporting crystal meth and ecstasy by claiming the parcel was a watch.

 

The 38 year old delivery rider reported the discovery of the drugs to Hua Mark Police Station on January 31 at about 10.45pm. He reported to officers that he was hired by a Thai man to deliver a watch to a recipient at the Maitria Hotel in the Rama 9 district of Bangkok but found that the parcel was packed with drugs instead of the watch.

Does water normally come from the CocaCola dispenser?

When it said water dispenser I thought it was incredibly mean to deny anyone some water. On closer inspection it is a drinks dispenser and he is helping himself to Coca Cola. So I understand the issue now.

It seems to me that job is about as low as it gets. If you don't get any other job, do that one.

I don't expect anything from those guys. 

Many of them are utterly stupid.

The Thaiger regurgitates news from other sites..  often without any understanding or clarity of what may also be a very poorly written original source….  The headlines are often deliberately attention grabbing & often misleading.

 

Each ‘author’ puts their profile at the base of their article - something they really should be too embarrassed to do !!

It's a bit over the top really.  At least ask first... But for water!

 

Customers have to pay for soda and so should the courier rider/driver. 

 

In saying that, my local LEX rider is excellent.  If the front gate is closed he'll call and wait outside.  If it's open he'll ll bring the goods into the yard. 

 

Very polite and professional fellah. Good guy.

Where I came from the fruit punch dispensers at the fast food places also had a water option.  You got pink water, but it was water.   Maybe same with the coke dispenser here.  It's freaking hot out there.  Give the guy a break if it really was water.

so i can just pop into 7 and grab a small bottled water open it no biggie right ? example on my walk last night i was sweating quite a lot when i got to 7. i am human too.

Very few places in the world would this be an issue or a topic of discussion, but Thailand's class structure continues to rear its ugly head. Had it been a wealthy person walking in off the street this never would have been an issue, but a lowly delivery driver. God forbid he takes some water, it's not like he was stealing soda, he just took some water.

 

How is this an issue?

And let's not forget that the restaurant was making money off this delivery.  It was not like someone off the street popped in and got some free water.

Those machines have a little thing on there you press and water dispensers under that same area it may not that he’s taking a soda he may be taking just Water TIT

Sorry, but you do not understand business laws. For KFC to operate in Thailand they must open a subdivision/subsidiary. Something that makes the part of the company incorporated in Thailand, standing under Thai law as well as registered in Thailand. All that will make KFC Thailand a Thai company.

I wonder if the restaurant made a big deal about it, or was it just patrons who witnessed it and were offended by a lowly delivery man getting water from their machine. Either way it's very offensive behavior, and rather pathetic. Can you imagine driving around a motorbike in this heat all day? Who wouldn't be thirsty, and why aren't the restaurants offering their delivery men water?

the nuances of subdivision/subsidiary business laws are irrelevant as far as i'm concerned.. KFC is an American restaurant with it's  roots in Thailand, both historically and presently. That's why it's  categorized under the term 'American fast-food restaurants.

How can you even equate a bottle of water from 7-11, with free water at a restaurant? It's no skin off the restaurants back, it means absolutely nothing to them, it doesn't cost them one satang.

The simple fact is that it is a restaurant in Thailand, which makes it a Thai restaurant that serves American fast-food. Same like Mario in Bangkok who opens something you and many more would call an Italian restaurant. Why we call it that, is because we are focusing on the cuisine that it serves. In reality, that will also be a Thai restaurant serving Italian food. At least according to the letter of the law.

 That is a KFC outlet in one of the many malls in thailand.buy a meal get a drink cup fill yourself.  I have seen everyone getting a second refill often maybe half full when they are leaving. The price of that drink to KFC is pennies only so i don,t think they care if someone gets a free drink or a bit extra.Other places leave the machine in plain sight and let u help yourself.Costing them nothing and some good  customer feedback on the service or business.It is a giveaway for them only using gas and flavoured mixers

i think there is something lost in translation here. the pic clearly shows the driver dispensing from a coke dispenser not water. water does cost them something ? it may be only a fraction of a satang but last i looked most places had to pay for water service. 

 

ill go with what it plainly looks like. a driver helping himself to a free coke. until proven otherwise i think the term nam is being lost in translation. 

 

now had the driver said....

 

p kap can i grab a little water from the dispenser.... might of changed everything.

Less I think, it is coke syrup, mixed I part syrup with 5 parts soda water , like Western Pubs 9.5 liters for 4,800b RETAIL Undiluted that is an awful lot of cups of coke.
