A shooting incident in Pattaya resulted in the death of a Bolt driver and injuries to another on February 28th, 2024.

Pol. Lt. Col. Nattiphong Jiampuak, an investigator at the Nongprue Police Station, received a report of the incident at 9:36 PM. The incident scene was identified as an unnumbered house within Soi Mab Yai Lia 24, Nongprue sub-district, Banglamung district, Chonburi province.

Upon arrival, officers found the scene in disarray, with residents in a state of unrest. The victim, Mr. Chatchai Phaentong, a 30-year-old driver for the ride-sharing application Bolt, was discovered with a gunshot wound to his leg. Despite receiving CPR from the emergency response team, Mr. Chatchai ultimately succumbed to his injuries.

Another individual, Mr. Krisana Boonsong, a 39-year-old Muay Thai trainer, was found suffering from a skull fracture after being struck by the butt of a gun by the suspect. He received initial medical attention before being rushed to the hospital. A 9mm bullet casing was collected as evidence.

Sure.  It's called the Femoral artery bleed out in 3 to 5 minutes.

Yes, unless someone there knows enough to try and stem the bleeding.

This doesn't sound like anything to do with him being a Bolt driver.  Link suggested some problems at a party a week earlier.

Agreed, but if so, why isn't the photo awash with blood?

My imagination is running away with this writeup. I interpret as one guy with a gun (9MM) uses it to hit the other guy over the head. The gun goes off and hits the slugger in the FemoraL Artery and he then bleed to death. Accident all over this one.

Motive? article gives impression it's because of being a Bolt driver but may not be

From the Link:

Witness testimonies provided some insight into the events leading up to the shooting. Mr. Anusit Sinsomsri, a resident of the village, stated that Mr. Chatchai had mentioned encountering problems at a party a week prior but did not elaborate further. Mr. Anusit revealed that he observed a group of 4-5 young individuals on motorcycles parked outside Mr. Chatchai’s house shortly before the incident. Although he attempted to warn Mr. Chatchai, it was too late. The group entered the house, and gunshots were heard shortly after..

Sorting it out Thai style.

For your information:

The femur (the large bone in the upper leg (between the pelvis and knee) if fractured (broken) can damage major blood vessels within the upper leg, such as the femoral artery which carried blood from the heart to the lower limb, or the femoral vein which carried blood from the lower limb back towards the heart.

If either of these major blood vessels are damaged, they can bleed profusely inside the upper leg, often with little or no outward signs of blood.  If the bleeding is not controlled very quickly, the amount of blood within the circulatory system rapidly decreases.  This in turn causes the heart to try and pump faster to ensure that there is a sufficient blood supply to the vital organs (brain, liver, kidneys etc).  As more blood is lost, it quickly becomes a ‘vicious circle’, the heart will try to beat faster and faster to compensate for the increasing blood loss.

Unfortunately, the heart can only beat so fast for a relatively short period of time before it goes into cardiac arrest (stops working).  If the bleeding is not controlled, and CPR administered quickly, brain cells will be irreversible damaged, and death will occur.

In the case of a bullet wound (depending upon the size of the bullet), the entry wound is often relatively small, with minimal external bleeding.  The real damage is done when the bullet hits the bone and the bullet and often the bone fragment.  It is these fragments that then damage the major blood vessels (femoral artery and vein) and rapid bleeding then occurs inside the leg and is only noticeable by the rapid swelling of the thigh.

Regrettably, Thai rescue personnel are, in the main, only trained in very basic first aid procedure (scope and run) and not equipped to undertake advanced life support procedures which would be needed in this case.

A friend of me broke his upper leg in a scout accident.
He died on the way to the hospital.
A broken or hurt leg can be fatal despite all first aid care.

Some silly jokes on here about his living accommodation.

To me, it shows the primitive and sad conditions they have to put up with when they are making a living.

RIP, 30 years old, sad to die at that age, and not much to look forward to daily.
