Elderly resident escapes as Phuket home destroyed by fire

An elderly man in north Phuket has had a lucky escape after his home was destroyed by fire.

 

The Phuket Express reports that the property, in the sub-district of Srisoontorn, in Thalang, went up in flames on Tuesday night, April 9.

 

Rescue workers were alerted at around 9.30pm and arrived at the home in the Manik area, to find the house fully engulfed in flames. It took firefighters 40 minutes to extinguish the blaze.

Phuket house fire leaves residents reeling: Investigation heats up

 

 

A destructive house fire yesterday ravaged a residence in Srisoonthorn, Phuket, leaving devastation in its wake. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

 

An electrical short circuit is believed to have ignited a fire that caused extensive damage to a house in Srisoonthorn last night around 9.30pm.

 

Firefighters from Srisoonthorn Fire Station rushed to the scene, located in the alley behind the Baan Manik Health Centre, upon receiving the call. Upon arrival, they found the house engulfed in flames. It took approximately 40 minutes for the firefighters to extinguish the fire, and fortunately, no injuries were reported.

 

The homeowner, 71-year-old Bunma Suayson, informed officers that he noticed the smell of smoke and began searching for its source. He then heard what he believed to be firecrackers and observed sparks falling onto the floor at the front of the house. Initially attempting to extinguish the fire himself, he soon became overwhelmed and contacted emergency services for assistance, reported Phuket News.

 

Fire investigators are currently conducting further inquiries into the cause of the fire, while the extent of the damage is yet to be assessed.

 

Meanwhile, police are investigating the mysterious death of a Thai man who allegedly committed suicide soon after a drunken row with his Burmese wife. The Thai man bit his Burmese wife’s lip before allegedly committing suicide by setting himself on fire at their shared home in the Saimai district of Bangkok on April 7. However, the circumstances surrounding his death remain a mystery.

 

The 51 year old Thai man, Amnart, was found dead at his home in Soi Phahonyothin 54/1 at around 10.30pm on April 7. His body was found charred on his bed, with a cooking gas cylinder located nearby.

 

Amnart’s relative, Kai, reported his death to the Saimai Police Station. She told officers that Amnart finished his work as a security guard at about 7pm and drank alcohol with her husband at her house until 8pm before returning home.

 

In related news, last week an absentminded Thai man inadvertently triggered a catastrophic blaze by smoking while filling up petrol bottles leading to a catastrophic blaze that engulfed his house and caused moderate injuries in Nong Prue, Bang Lamung, Chon Buri.

Sounds a bit like dodgy wiring catching on fire.
