Sporting a colourful shirt and shorts and carrying a water gun, Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin joined locals and tourists in the resort town of Hua Hin in celebrating Songkran in Pone Kingpetch Park, at an event arranged by the Hua Hin municipality.

In his Facebook post, the prime minister wrote that he hailed a “Kapor” (a four-wheel public transport vehicle, slightly largerthan tuk-tuk) to the park to participate in the Songkran celebrations.

He also said that he had poured water on the Phra Phuttha Sihing Buddha image, as a gesture for blessings on the traditional Thai New Year’s Day, and performed a “rod nam dum hua” ceremony to ask for blessings for elderly people participating in the event.

He wished for the Thai people to enjoy the festive activities in safety and good health.

Imagine his military predecessors doing anything like that ...

I think the contrast is to Srettha's credit. The common touch is an indication of egalitarianism which, in this country, is a welcome step forward. In public life even little gestures count.

The military prefers to spray bullets, not water. This is definitely a step forward.

When he's finished having fun with water will he do anything worthwhile.

I doubt it ...he's not done anything worthwhile as a PM yet, why change ?

They also like to spray water, but with acid, or pepper in it.

Then how about doing something about the smog up north? Millions of people are going to die a slow and agonizing death there because the authorities can’t be bothered to stop the burning.
