Crackdown on foreign criminals – spotlight on Phuket

The authorities in Thailand continue to crack down on foreign criminals operating businesses illegally, using Thai nominees, lacking work permits, overstaying and “stealing” Thai jobs.

 

Surapong Thanomjit from Provincial Police Region 8 says the Royal Thai Police and Interior Ministry are focusing on Phuket in particular, along with the islands of Surat Thani, where a dedicated task force has been created to crack down on foreign criminals and Thais assisting them with dodgy paperwork.

 

As the number of foreign tourists coming to Phuket increases year on year, the authorities are becoming concerned about the intentions of some. Surapong says foreign criminals may arrive pretending to be tourists and go on to commit crimes in the kingdom with fake long-term visa documentation.

Well well....it's about time you've figured out the bigger picture.........'tourists' has always been the wrong term used, not sure you are able to rid your problem when many Authorities and locals are on the take, good to see the 'Heat' is on anyway......clean it up....!

Thailand is an aged society. Too many jobs, not enough people.

Thais ain't losing their jobs to foreigners.

They either don't have the money to create these jobs or they just don't want them coz they are demanding.

I am not sure that's the issue. They are making their own society there, and taking jobs that Thai's want to do. They cannot or will not assimilate as they perceive themselves as some superior race.. And those crappy jobs are usually done by Burmese and Cambodians. Your thoughts?

So do the Thais. I mean you can stay in Thailand as much as you want, you will never be part of their community.

I wrote about demanding jobs. True crappy jobs can be demanding.

But being a manager for example is demanding too.

Cracking down on foreign-owned businesses paying taxes won't benefit Thailand for sure.

What does Thailand expect that young people with no savings on a long term visa don't need to eat and pay things?? Of course they do things and because a workpermit is very difficult to get with all the paperwork they will do illegal.. Maybe time to review the Labour laws.. Stealing jobs from Thai is impossible as Thailand imports a lot of Myanmar. Cambodian and Malaysian workers to work here, as Thai only want to be boss and don't do the work by themselves

They are renting villas between them, I know of one villa 12 of them living there

I think this is the start of things to happen nationwide. Phuket always seems to shake the tree and the rest of the country follows. All these foreigners using Thai nominees to obtain properties they could not normally obtain. Setting up a business name solely for this purpose may find they have no home in Thailand soon. Then there are all those sex workers from Africa and Russia and other countries taking away a good income from the Thai sex workers and doing it without work permits. Overstaying will always be a problem when they continue letting foreigners enter the country without a visa.

So, that´s why you see so many Russians taking jobs in the meat factories like other immigrants. Yes, they are stealing Thai jobs, as they come here with money and use them to build businesses in form of shops and offices. Something prohibited by Thai law in many working areas. High time to clean up. Out with the filthy pack, that thinks they can do what they want.

How about stopping motorbike rental companies renting to anyone who does not have a bonafide motorcycle license local or otherwise. That would deal with 50% of the illegal activities and safe lives as well.

A good friend of mine here in Rawai who has lots of bikes and cars, will not rent out without a license, what should happen is when the police stop all these bike's at the road blocks, they should confiscate the bikes, and make the rental company come to the police station to collect the bikes with the rental contract, I think the police can fine the rental company for not taking a license, and also a IDP 

The biggest culprits are these little shops buying a couple of bikes for rent, with them it's just about money,

It's a multiple issue. There's no "one size fits all solution to the labor gap.

• Lack of Thai skilled labor having technological know-how, (ie., shortage of vocational degrees) such as recognized by the EEC Office in S-Curve industries.
• Number of qualified Thai workers is falling due in part to population aging and low birth rate.

• The Hospitality and Food & Beverage sectors are least likely to experience labor shortage. Guess where the previous and new governments have been focused?

I am part of my local community, but mainly 'coz I have a Thai wife, who is a strong member of that community. I have lived in 'our' village for 15+ years, a good example was at my friends cremation when 20 turned up even though he was not known by most, they came because he was MY friend.

Around where I live, Thai's they know the Russians working illegally, Hairdressers and Nails working from home or doing home visits,

Take a look on Facebook, Phuket and you will see any number of Russian names touting properties for sale and rent, not to mention one or two who advertise a car washing service, with the ad written mostly in Russian.

 

Somehow they are getting away with it and it shouldn't be hard to catch them if the BIB used a little bit of nous, but then again..........

"getting away with it" if only the Authorities would turn away from bribes....maybe its started, many arrests lately...yes I'm sure locals see the working Russians and are now calling it in......the majority don't have the funds for their 90 day freebee stamp or purchased Education visa stays.... Bust it up !!!
