Root canal quote and need Crown

Average cost for a root canal will be between 10K to 13K for a molar.
Average cost for a Zirconia Crown will be between 18K to 20K for a molar.

My own dentist: 13K for a root canal and 18K for a Zirconia Crown.
My wife's dentist: 10K for a root canal and 20K for a Zirconia Crown.

Always best to keep the tooth if possible. Root canal + crown is the best way to proceed. Prices vary, but your price quote seems about right, if going to a quality and reputable endo and dentist.

I just had a root canal done on a molar one week ago....And the cost was 12,000 baht with 2 appointments....The root canal was filled....And that was it....A crown is not needed on a molar root canal in most cases....Its a waste of money and time and purpose...

 

I have a whole mouth full of crowns and root canals....So I know what I am talking about....Molars are strong enough just with a filling provided they are next to other teeth and not standing alone or in too terrible of shape with massive decay...

Sounds about right. Paid 18K for a zirconia crown in Pattaya. But I didn't want to wait for an appt with Dr. Warin.

Exactly what I've just had done in the last few weeks at Thantakit in Bangkok. Excellent service. 

Their pricing is here as a guide for the OP. Prices may well be somewhat cheaper in Pattaya.

That would have been around 3 to 5 k not that long ago.

Come to Vietnam, 2000 Baht for a root canal.3500 for a crown.

A crown is a crown which is a cap ok 

Get a quote to pull it and do an implant instead.

So according to their email,they charge an extra 5k for prep /labour 

Yes I don't think I will pay more than 30k

It's just I have no idea of what sort of Crown I require 

Anyone know anything about Crowns can advise me?

It's a upper right tooth molar in the middle of the jaw  so it's a big tooth

It all depends on the tooth for root canal pricing....For a front tooth you might pay only 7-8 thousand baht if you look around for a crown root canal its 11-13 thousand........But still way way way less than USA prices....

If you're on a regular length vacation you won't have time to see Warin. 

 

I went a few years ago, maybe 2019, and it was 12k for a root canal on a molar and a porcelain crown.  One visit per root, with days or a week in between each visit. I got sick of that routine and stopped going. Ended up having the tooth extracted at home and will get an implant sometime this year.  I've had x-rays done and there has been no migration of the surrounding teeth. 

 

Don't put up with this multiple visits crap. My dentists at home did all of the roots in one go, applied the epoxy temporary filling, then fitted the crown on the following visit.

I went with a white zirconia substructure (strong for molars) and porcelain on the outside (looks like a real tooth). Looks great. Would have gone with full gold but was 36k baht for the full gold so gave it a miss. The full gold crowns are best because they don't need to drill as much of your tooth away to fit the crown. Need to drill away about 1 cm more to fit the zirconia. There was also a silver colored palladium crown similar to gold slightly more expensive then the zirconia, but I did not like the silver color so passed. The full gold crowns are not the same as porcelain fused to gold, as the gold there is an amalgam and oxidizes on the the edge causing decay. It can't be 18k gold because they need the other metals mixed it in order to fuse it with the porcelain.

 

Could go on all day and write a book on it. Hope that helps. My crown was 22k.

3 visits in 7-10 days according to their email .but ..I just emailed their surgery and the Root canal specialist is there only on a Saturday which isnt  any good for me ! 

 

I may email  or call the Bangkok Pattaya hospital, being a big company they charge more BUT they may get it done quicker because they will have the machines and technology AND staff ... that small dentist don't have , is a hospital dental department better than say some dentist surgery?

 

I don't know who to go to actually I'm confused, there's that many dentist in Pattaya

I have used several independent dentists here in Phuket, but have found the dental department in Bangkok Phuket hospital to be the best, so I go there now for all of my dental needs.

George, you can't swing a dead cat without hitting a dentist's office (or brothel) in Pattaya. Do some legwork and find a place that meets your needs. 

 

Go to one of the many modern dental offices then swing by and try to have a look in Warin's place. It's like a Soviet era museum.  Dental offices are incredibly expensive to set up and operate; this is where Warin is able to reduce overhead and save money.  He has probably done more procedures than you've had hot meals and I've never heard a complaint about his work aside from the number of visits required to get it done.

Yes I had a bad experience a few years ago in South Pattaya.

 

One of those with Smile in their name, broke one of my tooth cleaning it and then offered to fix it for a fee , I had to wait to get back to Australia to fix his damage ,he was dressed as a ladyboy

Zirconia Crown - they are the best value for the money - I'm speaking from experience.  However you can go cheaper like porcelain.  I had a porcelain crown that lasted 20+ years.  More expensive crowns?  You don't need them.  They're just money makers for the dentist.

Why do you think the multiple visits are so common? Is it a scheduling issue? Or a rushed, disorganized dentist with too many patients?

Well according to that dental clinic I emailed there Root canal specialist is in every Saturday .

 

I'm thinking maybe this guy travels/visits  to all Pattaya Dental clinics like a sub contractor?

 

So what I need is a full time Root canal specialist I'm thinking Bangkok Pattaya hospital may have full time staff

Can they get it all done in one day ?

Is that possible?

Might want to call them and see. Also, they need a microscope to do good root canals these days. So your first question is do they have the microscope. If not, the dentist is going only by the feel of the files which is very hard to do and they usually don't get all the way to the bottom, it reinfects years later, causes an abcess, etc.

 

I had to have a couple re-done with a microscope later on. Part was left at the bottom of the root that caused an abcess and you can lose the tooth because the bone wastes away under the tooth.

 

There's also a new "hyper-sonic" spray that's done at the conclusion of the procedure into the canal to clear away bacteria. It's an expensive tool, like the microscpe is, so not everywhere will have it. I feel like it helped me when I had mine done with these advanced tools.

I'm thinking a big hospital like BKK Pattaya would have that along with a X ray machine....maybe it's possible that some of the smaller clinics don't have that not even a X ray 

 

And I really don't want a dental clinic  who has to call in a sub contractor root canal specialist to visit on certain days

Is this a wind-up? If you have not seen the dentist, how do you know you need a root canal and crown? 

 

Unless the tooth is mostly rotten and or broken, there should be no need for a crown. Root canal and a filling. 

 

Gold is the best, and most expensive crown material. I have one forty years old. Came off once about ten years ago and had it glued back on, no problem. 

 

One day is not realistic. After the root canal they'll do a medicated filling and if needed, a temporary crown. Once they're sure it's okay, they'll fill or crown it.
