A fatal accident involving a Ducati motorbike and a roadside barrier claimed the life of a 29 year old man yesterday in Kalim, north of Patong on the scenic Phuket coastal road. The unnamed victim, a resident of Moo 7, Mai Khao, suffered catastrophic head trauma in the collision, leading to his untimely demise.

The crash was reported to Police Lieutenant Colonel Chayakorn Tangsakul of the Patong Police at around 8.20am. On arrival, officers found the distressed scene near the Abzab Restaurant, with the red Ducati motorbike lying next to a concrete roadside barrier. The victim’s body was discovered beside a coconut tree, on the opposite side of the barrier.

A medical team from Patong Hospital and rescue workers from the Kusoldharm Foundation were also present at the scene. After confirming the man’s death, his body was transported to Vachira Phuket Hospital for further examination.

Meanwhile, the motorbike was seized and taken to the Patong Police Station as part of the ongoing investigation into the fatal accident.

The accident adds to the growing list of road fatalities in Phuket this year. According to ThaiRSC, a national road safety organisation, a total of 57 people have lost their lives and a staggering 8,332 have sustained injuries in road accidents across the island since the year began.

These alarming figures underline the pressing need for improved road safety measures and awareness in the region, reported Phuket News.

In related news, a Thai man narrowly avoided significant harm when his car collided with an electricity pole and subsequently caught fire in the early hours of this morning in Phuket Town.

Phuket City Police received notification of the accident, which occurred close to the juncture of Phang Nga Road and Surin Road, at 1.55am today, April 19. On arrival at the scene, law enforcement and emergency services discovered a black Toyota Altis, registered in Bangkok, that had crashed into the power pole.
