Prime Minister urges police to crack down on influential figures

Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin has directed the Provincial Police Region 8 Commander in Phuket Province to intensify efforts in apprehending individuals with bad influence who continuously violate the law.

 

During a meeting to review the police operations at the Provincial Police Region 8 Headquarters, the Prime Minister delivered policy directives, stating that over the past six months, there have been numerous arrests related to drug offenses.

 

Appreciation was expressed for the rigorous enforcement efforts. Various measures should be employed to apprehend offenders to address the issues more effectively, including continuous management and addressing the issue of online gambling, which has caused distress to the public.

 

Acknowledging the importance of morale-boosting incentives for the police force, especially regarding housing, it is imperative to ensure adequate and continuous construction of police residences. The government will take care of improving the living conditions of police personnel.

 

Regarding the development of Phuket province, strict measures should be enforced concerning illegal hotel businesses, ensuring that licenses are issued strictly and that no one operates above the law. This includes stringent oversight of tourism activities and preventing exploitation of tourists for personal gain.

I wrote the following before I realize the article above is only about Phuket.

But the principle is the same.

 

If they really would want to do that, then the list of influential people would include all MPs and many rich families. Because they are all influential people.

 

The more important question is which influential people use their influence to do good things, and which influential people use their influence to get more influence, more money, get out of jail, and all those things.

 

Please let us know if the Shinawatras are on the list of influential people. They should be on that list. They clearly use their influence all the time.

My unsolicited piece of advice would be to change the entire police force; it is one of the most cancerous agencies this country has - shortly after the armed forces 😉

I think you misread the article, as I did at first.

 

he was not talking about apprehending “influential people” in the sense of hiso thai people. He is talking about, well, criminals in the conventional sense. Although he termed it as people of bad influence who habitually offend. He goes on to list a number of crimes but focuses on drug crime.

 

bad headline really. The article, as far as I can see, is simply talking about crime in general

Usually there would be some connection between the title and the content so you would strain to ascertain what that connection was. No such worry here.

Keep in mind that they held an accounting a few months back to identify people of questionable influence and question them. If memory serves me correctly of the 690+ people of bad influence almost 500 stated that they had already changed their ways, whatever that means. The remainder never committed to change nor did anything ever come of it.

I would love to see their definition of "questionable influence". 

We could start with legal and illegal activities. And only because they are not arrested doesn't mean they didn't do anything illegal.

And somehow, I would be surprised if anybody who helped Thaksin is on the list of influential people, even if they are obviously influential.

And the fools who married the gambler or were born to them. Then there are the friends and family members who bailed out the gambler and were never repaid, the people who had things stolen and pawned for gambling money, or the employer who had funds embezzled to cover gambling debts.

Well thanks I know I am, I don't surround myself in gamblers, had a GF who bailed her mother out using my money and I dumped her the same day.
