That was my first thought. I think you may have nailed the problem since there is no leak.

I had a similar problem water main burst in the village all the water from my tank drained into the village system even though the stop cock was closed. Faulty stop cock which wasn't a apparent when the village water supply was at normal pressure

It could be draining back into supply side if you don"t have a one way valve on it and also if water pressure is not high enough , if you dont see a leak anywhere , that could be the problem.

When your tank is full, close the valve next to your water meter (so water can not flow back). If the water in your tank drains away, you have a leak somewhere on your property. It could even be under

Have you checked the toilets to see if one is constantly running? If the valve isn't cutting off properly, the overflow just goes into the pan, so it's easy to miss. (The same thing can happen if the

When there is water (i.e. before the tank runs empty) - does the water pump run constantly ?

No,  the water pump runs the same as always.  Not so often.

Then the leak is between the tank and the pump.....

A one-way valve is also called a check valve.

It's been fine for 6 years,  never had any problems.  The supply side adds water up high,  close to the top of the water tank so even if it was draining back it could only go down a little bit.  Now it goes down to almost empty.

Check your toilets, it could be running down through the septic tank and out to the street drains, and your water bill should be high if its leaking away, call a water pump guy to have a look, very cheap but be weary of the septic tank guys, they will try you on.

Start with the float valve—if it’s not functioning properly, it could be causing the tank to refill continuously, which might not be apparent if the overflow is draining out of sight. Another possibility is a hidden underground pipe leak, especially if your plumbing system includes buried lines.

It’s also worth considering if there’s increased water demand during specific times, like neighbors tapping into your supply or a timer-based irrigation system you might’ve overlooked. For professional help, reaching out to a service like Island Well Service can be a good move, especially if you need expertise to assess hidden issues or repair components.

What type of tank is it. Is it an underground tank brick lined or an above ground tank.

He said earlier that it is a plastic tank sitting on a patio area.

It was obviously a junkbot post.  Who would recommend a company on Vancouver Island to discuss an issue in Thailand with?
