American gets praise on TikTok for donating helmets in Pattaya - Video

Thai TikTok users have praised an American man, Rick Brown, living in Pattaya, for his charitable act of giving out helmets to children. Brown, 57, plans to donate a million helmets across Thailand to enhance children's safety.

The American shared videos on his TikTok account, @savvyrickbrown, showing him giving out the helmets for free. The children receiving these helmets seemed delighted.

These videos caught significant attention online, triggering appreciative comments from Thai internet users.

A selection of the comments included messages of thanks for Brown's focus on children's safety, welcoming and praising him as a good foreigner, and acknowledging the need for more foreigners like him. One Internet user recounted a personal experience of undergoing brain surgery after a motorcycle accident and called Brown's actions fantastic.

Some Internet users also pointed out the absurdity of parents who ride expensive motorbikes but fail to provide safety gear for their children.

ThaiRath found out that Brown moved from the US to retire in Pattaya nearly two years ago and has been giving out helmets to children for the past six months. Brown insisted that all the helmets he gives out meet high safety standards.

Brown's motivation for this generous act comes from his traumatic experience of a motorcycle crash when he was young. His friends had played a prank on him that led to the accident, and he was not wearing a helmet at the time, which resulted in post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). After years of struggle, he overcame the symptoms of his PTSD and now leads a regular life. To keep other children safe and prevent them from going through a similar ordeal, Brown started giving out these free helmets.

The positive response to his charitable work from both Thai and foreign internet users, some of whom have made financial contributions towards the helmets, has motivated Brown. His goal is not just local but national - he aims to distribute one million helmets across Thailand. He stated his love for Thailand and its people, emphasising his intention to contribute to Thai society through this initiative.

I would love to see how many of these new helmets will still be used in a week or a month. Somehow I bet most of them will somewhere pick up a lot of dust.    Picture for referenc

Or as when I bought helmets for all of my staff - within a week they had all been sold at the local market.

Nothing wrong with Rick's altruistic approach. I suppose if he saves one life, then it will have been worth it.

Conversely, the absolute majority of beneficiaries will be extremely selective as to when they wear their new skid lid, if ever.

I don't see much policing these days so likely not.

Takes a foreigner to teach Thais. Live or die they don't care. My view after 50 years.

Getting sick and tired of these news focusing again and again on Foreigners.

Focus on Thais giving free helmets for a change....

You should start reading Thai language news instead of only reading English language news.

He should smash one with a baseball bat to know how good the quality is. Cheap helmets turn into blades that can penetrate your head, I rather crash without one. Only good helmets are worth the time. Pretty sure this entire giving helmets away is all for the fame on TikTok.

The video is so funny; a thai family drives by on a 200-300K baht bike without helmets, all stop, and think, look another farang sucker, let's get a few of these free helmets. The next day the cousins are instructed to drive by without a helmet too.

How many Turo-Hayabusa doing a wheelie at over 300km/h did you see recently?

None, actually. Guess that means it´s not that many total idiots that drive Hayabusa.
