A Laotian tourist, Detnakhon Inthakoummane, aged 37, reported being robbed of his 80,000 baht gold necklace while sleeping off intoxication on a street in Pattaya early Wednesday morning, May 1.

After a late-night drinking session and against his companions' advice, Mr. Detnakhon decided to walk back to his accommodations. Feeling tired, he fell asleep on a footpath.

Upon waking up, he discovered his gold necklace was missing and swiftly reported it to the police. CCTV footage revealed a thin, tall man in biker attire. The man was seen observing the sleeping Detnakhon and later returning without his vest to rob him of his necklace.

Pattaya police have been asked to expedite the investigation in order to bring the offender to justice. This incident highlights an ongoing issue in Pattaya where gold necklace theft is frequent among foreign tourists.

Last year, similar robberies targeting two Indian men were reported. Police advise tourists to avoid displaying flashy jewelry and to stay alert, especially when under the influence.

Only status-hunger fools wear bling in public.  I have no sympathy.

Ref photo; Did he also have a gold tooth stolen ?

A drunk quality tourist falling asleep on a sidewalk.  What a loser, he deserves to have his necklace stolen hope the cops made him pay.

I think we've got the answer here to the eternal question "How stupid can you be?"

He's lucky that's all he lost.... I bet the lady boys were eyeing him up for a while, especially with all that bling.

When a story  is short on useful content a photo distracts.

Ok, so he screwed up. He is a victim of crime, why does he need to be punished for a stupid error? And why are you excusing the theft? Stealing is wrong. The person who stole the necklace is the type of person who does not return an elderly person's purse or a lost mobile phone. The wrongful act here is the theft.

Nice to see the victim blaming going on on this thread as well...

You lot seldom disappoint.

A German saying, 'He who has the damage  doesn't need to supply the derision.

What the hell was he doing with a 80K gold chain as a tourist. Did he not know the basics of security precautions? You should not go around flashing an  expensive item while travelling overseas.

Now he can think about how much fun he could have had if he would have sold the gold and party in Pattaya.

Please tell me why anyone would wear a gold neckless, a Real Rolex or carry a large sum of money while out drinking ....ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD! This is not a Thailand or a Pattaya problem. It is a problem of stupidity.

In other places he could have lost a kidney or two!

Somehow I imagine it is more difficult to sell those specialist items.
