Thai Airport Issues Warning to Pet Owners After Cat Incident

Airport authorities in Thailand have warned pet owners against allowing their animals to roam unattended in airport areas following a recent incident with a cat named Nuarang at Suvarnabhumi International Airport.

Nuarang, an orange cat, caught social attention after it was spotted unsupervised on an airport escalator. It was found that the cat's owner, a representative of a tour company working in the airport, allowed the pet to wander freely, potentially endangering the public and the airport property.

Previously, the Airports of Thailand (AOT), had no explicit rules barring pets from the airport. However, the incident may prompt the introduction of regulations requiring pets to be leashed or held while in the airport.

The airport authority has since reprimanded the cat's owner and urged cooperation from the public not to bring pets to the terminal unless necessary.

The incident, captured on CCTV in early April, has triggered discussion about pet ownership responsibilities in public areas, especially at airports where public safety and convenience are paramount.

AOT is contemplating measures to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future, including potentially requiring pet owners to keep their animals leashed or held at the airport. These reforms could align with global standards for pet regulation in public spaces, ensuring airports remain safe and comfortable for all users.

I checked the regulations before I came, but I'll check them again.

Everything that fluoresces in this airport's light... is our kingdom, from check-in to takeoff, day or night

In Japan it would have been made director of the airport...

"Previously, the Airports of Thailand (AOT), had no explicit rules barring pets from the airport"

How is this possible?!

Probably for the same reason they don't have a rule against riding the escalators standing on your hands.

You'd need a library full of rules against every stupid thing.

Though I do wish they'd publish a rule about kids racing those self propelled suitcases.

How would you check in your pets at the terminal, some airlines allow pets in cabin now.

People love to moan don't they? What harm was this cat doing? None

It made people happy, leave it alone

I'd agree, as long as they put out a litter tray, and the cat was well trained to use it.

Decades ago, the ex had a cat that would immediately poop when we put her in the car to go to the vet (only time it ever left the house was to go to the vet).  That's a smell I wouldn't wish on anyone, and cat pee is even worse.  And almost impossible to get rid of.

They are in a suitable bag, carrier. Many airlines have allowed pets up to 5kg in the cabin for decades. Not in economy due to lack of space.

Seriously? Does that cat look like it's gonna obey ANYBODY'S regulations?

Air Europa are, apparently, the opposite. I flew Madrid to Sao Paulo and was horrified to see animals (albeit in carriers) being taken onboard into the (economy class) cabin. Animals not permitted in business class.

Glad there's no rules currently for pets wandering in Thai airports, cause I don't go anywhere without my comfort pony.

Probably did not think in was necessary. Now people want to take their stinking pets into shops, hospitals and even ON the planes. Leave the damn things at home or in kennels.

On a leash or a carrying box / cage
