You sound like a person who enjoys their own space and company. Nothing wrong with that. St

TCl made friends with people over the years sometimes a friendship that started from a causual polite convesation.

Which VT are you in and for how long?

These types of interactions are there. I think part if it is the bar scene here. Guys are used to sitting at a barstool near other guys and expecting a conversation.

I also interpret some if it as gay, but it depends on the guy. It's always at the back of my mind.

Your right. What nationality is the guy who started this. I note in the UK we have a pub culture. You go to the pub for a beer and generally talk to anyone who is there. Interact. But so many nationalities don't have that . Russians don't even speak to each other! Many nationalities happily walk down the street or sit on the kerb with a bottle of beer. British sit in a bar because we have a pub culture & we socialise.

Pattaya is what YOU make it to be. You can be lonely or a drinker, or explore the area

I started my Thai experience in BKK.  I was meeting Ladies via the apks available on the net. ( since COVID, the "professionals" are using the apks - beware!!! ) Found a lady that was a secretary at a shoe factory - I went there to meet her, and started the romance at 67 - she in her 50's

Went back to USA, returned 3 months later to Pattaya because it was closer to her.  1st "room" was smaller than a shoe box, lasted 1 month there had my own entrance to the room and a friendly Soi dog that guarded the steps to the room at night.

Rented a motor scooter ( monthly ) and went looking for a place.

Found a Thai residence hotel, in the downtown area, for LESS cost than the mini shoe box. A corner roomn that contained 2 sofas, table, refrigerator, TV, and a queen bed, monster shower and a balcony, 1 big window with black out drapes.

Transportation, restaurants, convince stores almost at the door. 5 farang residents - 1 lived there for 12 years, out of 70 residents.  Farang were of mixed nationals.

Girlfriend stayed on the weekend with no management problems.

Since I had a scooter, I would go to Chon Buri to pick her up on Friday, (or holidays), take her back on Suunday.

Otherwise I explored on scooter all of Pattaya, some of Chon Buri and Suttahip to keep myself busy.

VT1 and 2 are set back from the beach, around 1km and are run down with mostly occupied by down and out foreigners.

VT1b is very well taken care of. I've stayed there many times and up to 2 months at times.

Now NO ROOMS. Very popular among Italians. They are funny people, we have lot of fun at pool. No skinny babes,, through.

VT1a used to be more run down and many go go type bars but Covid killed 90% of them so that's quiet too.

VT2a and b has always been well taken care off. I like the big private yard to walk.

Bad mouthing person knows nothing about VT properties... One morning he'll wake up with horse's head.

More utter nonsense.  Spouse and I owned 9 View Talay condos, at various times, scattered around VT3, 5C, 5D, and 7.  Sold every one of them at a profit.  Each of the projects is in a good, beachside location.  From VT3 on, the projects offered much larger units, many 90 sqm or more, in addition to 48 sqm studios, which are actually larger than a lot of studios in new projects of 25 sqm or less.   We have been in some stunning VT condos, including a beautiful condo of a friend of ours in one of the bigger units in VT3.  Like Pattaya itself, you get a number of people that don't know what they are talking about when they discuss condos, VT included.

Contrary to some of the snide remarks here, including yours, the majority of the residents I encountered when I lived in the VT condos with my spouse were normal folk, living normal lives.  That was also true for the other projects we lived at--from Garden Cliff in the north to Lumpini Park Beach in the south--with a number of stops at other condos in-between.  Some married, some single.  Some living there full-time, some living in their condos only during the winter months, escaping European, Canadian, and US winters.

The VTs have a very reasonable condo fee so many from cold countries can afford to keep a VT condo year-round, even though they may only use it during the winter months.  When we lived at VT3, in a large 100+ sqm corner unit much bigger than many of the smaller condos in new buildings, we met a nice couple from Europe who did just that.  Originally, they rented a VT3 condo just during the winter months but then decided to buy a condo so they could keep their stuff in it year-round and not have to move in and out every year--the low condo fee made it an easy choice.

You can have it mate, all yours! And FU too!

Great place for Russians who stay up all night long working not caring one iota about disturbing anyone or the numerous chair draggers and imbeciles who sneeze with all their might on the balcony numerous times a day. If you like San Quentin VT (any of them) are the places for you. I could add to this but what for, obviously some people are numb to it and belong there.

What better than that?

Free meals 3x a day.

Guards keeping riff raff out.

2x a week mating visits by your babe, and so on

I lived in Bangok for 20 years, and for the last 5 years wasn't in a relationship, and wasn't screwing-around either. Couldn't be bothered, money wasn't an issue,  and I didn't feel particularly lonely.

Who really knows whether someone is lonely other than the individual themselves.

These types of thread are invariably started by individuals not living here who try to project an impression that those who are are unhappy. I think it's a form of envy/jealousy because they are stuck elsewhere, discontent with their lives.

I'm sure he's talking about VT1 and VT2, they are very different to 3, 5 and 7.

VT1 and 2 are set back from the beach, around 1km and are run down with mostly occupied by down and out foreigners.

VT3, 5 and 7 are occupied by very different people, located on the beach and are much nicer designed and well maintained.

Or check VT6 which by most any measure is the best location in all of pattaya if you want convenience.  It is a well built well run building and many people are paying top $$ to stay there especially in peak months. Like most any condo many units are highly upgraded by their owners while some are not so upgraded.

Of course anyone can likely find a cheaper, newer place in Jomtien or Naklua or ? but you will not find a better location that literally is next door to central mall on one side, second road on one side, beachfront on the other side, and all of soi buahkow on the other side with baht buses on your front or back door steps.  For some it is perhaps too busy but if you like convenience I have yet to see anyplace that can compete.

Haters and whiners love to bash places that they know little to nothing about.

We weren't talking about VT6 but now that you have brought it up.

I read about residents complaining regularly, saying the noise coming from the beach, many times throughout the year they set up stages along the beach front, bands playing loud music through the night and early hours.

So BEST LOCATION,......... Nope.

I'm not really sure what people expect for elderly men or women, at some time your partner will either leave or die, so one of you at least will end up alone.

At that stage you either end up living alone or in a retirement/nursing home back in the west, here you can choose a new (younger) woman and family or continue alone.

I've gone the new (younger) woman and family, but would be equally happy alone with my rabbits.

My policy is to make the most of life while you still have it!

At nearly 70, I can't really believe what a great time I'm still having.

And you need to to do more !

Challenge yourself

Try going to rave parties ,dance clubs etc

Gay saunas , moon parties ,do things outside the box

You have another 10-15 years left at most

And that's why we must not act like a normal 70 yo

Hobbling along wearing red cardigans etc with long socks and tailored shorts

We must go out there and embrace culture diversity and sexuality
