The Grave Reality Behind the Chants for "Intifada" on College Campuses

Recommended Posts

In recent days, college campuses have become the battlegrounds for ideological clashes and protests. However, amidst the fervor for activism, some chants carry a weight of historical significance and a grave reality that many may not fully comprehend. One such chant, "Intifada," has resurfaced, echoing through the halls of academia. But behind the seemingly innocuous call lies a dark and painful history that demands to be understood.

At the heart of the matter is a profound ignorance among some students regarding the true meaning and consequences of "Intifada." For many, the term may evoke notions of rebellion and resistance, but its origins are steeped in bloodshed and tragedy. To grasp the gravity of this chant, one must delve into the harrowing events that marked the Intifada periods in Palestinian history.

The term "Intifada" translates to "uprising" or "shaking off" in Arabic, and it has been associated with two major waves of Palestinian resistance against Israeli occupation. The First Intifada, which began in 1987, was characterized by widespread civil disobedience, protests, and acts of violence against Israeli forces. While the Palestinians sought to assert their rights and resist oppression, the consequences were devastating.

During the First Intifada, innocent civilians on both sides bore the brunt of the violence. Israeli military crackdowns led to countless casualties among Palestinian civilians, including women, children, and the elderly. The use of live ammunition, tear gas, and other forms of force resulted in a staggering loss of life and left deep scars on Palestinian communities.

Tragically, the cycle of violence continued with the outbreak of the Second Intifada in 2000, marked by suicide bombings, shootings, and retaliatory strikes by Israeli forces. Once again, ordinary civilians became the targets of senseless violence, with lives shattered and families torn apart by the conflict. The toll of the Second Intifada was immense, leaving a legacy of trauma and despair that still reverberates today.

Against this backdrop of suffering and anguish, the chants for "Intifada" take on a chilling significance. They serve as a stark reminder of the human cost of armed conflict and the urgent need for peace and reconciliation. Yet, for some students, the chant may be nothing more than a hollow expression of solidarity or a misguided attempt at activism.

It is crucial to recognize that words have power, and the invocation of "Intifada" carries with it a weighty responsibility. By chanting for "Intifada," students risk trivializing the profound suffering endured by countless individuals caught in the crossfire of conflict. They overlook the complexities of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the deeply entrenched issues that fuel it.

Moreover, the chants for "Intifada" may perpetuate a cycle of violence and division, further exacerbating tensions and hindering efforts towards peace. Instead of promoting meaningful dialogue and understanding, such rhetoric fosters polarization and animosity, deepening the divides between communities and undermining efforts for reconciliation.

In light of these sobering realities, it is imperative for students to educate themselves about the historical context and consequences of their words and actions.

Agree with most of the OP, BUT, the question that arises is if the Palestinians are prepared to put up with israeli oppression, collective punishment, arbitrary arrest, indefinite incarceration without trial, land theft and assaults by settlers protected by the military, OR, do they think the consequences are worth the opportunity to take a few israelis with them?

A people without a future or hope are probably the most dangerous people on the planet as they see no reason not to die fighting the oppressors.

The israelis have created an enemy with nothing to lose, and they will suffer for it.

And Israel seems to have as much comprehension about the concept of Palestinian blowback as the Thais have about the conflict in the south. History has either been rewritten or completely forgotten, and ignorance abounds.

I presume you're referring to the likes of myself. At least I hope so!

So which rabbit hole am I down and is it something I should be concerned about? I mean, by most indicators I'm doing okay - I have a beautiful wife and kids who still speak to me and love me even though they're out of the house and doing their own things, I own several businesses and have built those with my partners and employees, I have a great group of friends in several different countries whom I enjoy and who would support me if I needed them. What's not to like? Is it because we're all "Wokies" that we're so nice to each other, pleasant to be around and successful?

Perhaps that is the difference. I did work hard and was focused on achieving my objectives but fully understand that I would never have made it without the support of others, the mentorship of older friends, colleagues and relatives, the hard work of my employees, good fortune and a number of other myriad factors that are too complex to discuss while keeping eyes open. Unlike you macho men of the Right, who made it entirely on your own without any help from anyone at any time ever, and who have fought against the tides of the Woke trying to provide your dark-skinned and accented-English competitors at your expense to somehow succeed mainly through the hard work you put in (not at all from exploiting your employees). So yes, I guess we Wokies have basically joined together (like COMMIES!) to cooperate and build a better world that helps more than just the top of the pyramid and in doing so we're destroying society!

At least, that is, we're destroying YOUR society, the unjust one that the diapered dolts of the Me Generation are using their stolen wealth to try to maintain as they head increasingly for their dirt naps. Don't get me wrong, I'll be headed that way soon myself, but I'll do so with a smile on my face and happy in the knowledge that the kids are alright.

Hyperbole and hysteria.

I asked an idiot protester in Canada if they knew what river they were chanting about in their phrase,

From the river to the sea. They had no clue. I let them know it was the Jorden river, and the phrase

meant to get rid of Isreal. They did not believe me, so I googled it on my tablet. They were totally surprised and

put down their placard, so I told them to spread their newly learned knowledge to their friends. Ain't education

great!

Great quote from the president of the University of Florida;

At the University of Florida, we have repeatedly, patiently explained two things to protesters: We will always defend your rights to free speech and free assembly—but if you cross the line on clearly prohibited activities, you will be thrown off campus and suspended. In Gainesville, that means a three-year prohibition from campus. That’s serious. We said it. We meant it. We enforced it. We wish we didn’t have to, but the students weighed the costs, made their decisions, and will own the consequences as adults. We’re a university, not a daycare. We don’t coddle emotions, we wrestle with ideas.

well dont  that man but i'd  add OFF  campus

You sound absolutely giddy over your prediction of Israeli suffering.

Yeah. I remember a couple years ago there was a "no oil" protest in Germany at a museum in Munich. The protesters glued their hands to the floor and vowed to stay. After an evening, they left. One complained of a swollen hand and demanded medical attention. They were all huffy because they weren't allowed to have food delivered during their protest.

Soft as puppy poo in a hailstorm these lefties.

Supporters of genocide apparently think threats of violence carry more weight than actual violence. I simply cannot understand the deprived morality of the supporters of genocide.

So,you might know what a woman is.

Unlike most of the blue haired woke freaks who also advocate for pornography in school libraries and invite drag queens to show their panties to 5 year old kids in class.

Yawn. The same old BS tropes. Yes, I'm woke, no my hair's not blue, yes I cohabit with a woman and have children whose gender has not been reassigned, etc.

What y'all don't "get" is that being woke is SOOOOOOOO much more than that, it's more about just having liberal and humane values that come down to "you do you".

You just keep taking the most extreme examples and try to characterize everyone who's not to the Right of Jesse Helms as being "typical" of that when they're actually the middle of the road politically. It's just that you've gone so far to the Right it looks like they're tar Left.

You never asked. And it doesn't make the slightest difference what I think about it since I'm not one, that's up to the individual. How can I know what's going on in their head? Plus, when one debates enough online there's a distinct desire to really NOT know what's going on in other people's heads. What they're comfortable sharing is more than enough to make me despair for the limited time the human race has remaining.
