Why are there emojis offered that will get you suspended like the middle finger. I gave that to a poster years back the way you'd do it to a friend for the hell of it, no aggression intended. And, got suspended.

It's not the features that are the problem, it's how some users use them that's the issue. You can abuse emoji reactions same as you can abuse text posts. That you use them "for the hell of it" and you admiting that you like to bait certain users shows that you abuse the features and should not be surprised if you get warned or suspended.

What do you guys think about my little idea for forum guidelines?

IMG_4344.jpeg

I saw a post I didn't agree with - I'm free to form my own opinions

I didn't get offended - if there are no personal attacks or slurs there is no need to get offended

I didn't comment - it's a discussion forum and, from AN's point of view, the more clicks the better?

I didn't feel the need to change their mind - I felt the need to voice an opinion or fact, or simply make people laugh

I still like the person - I don't know the person therefore I have no reason to like or dislike

I just kept scrolling - if that were to happen there would be no discussion

Posters are not allowed to post anonymously; this is a good rule.

Posters are allowed to post reactions anonymously; this doesn't seem right.

I added an emoji to every post a forum member had made.

Whilst we forum members only see emoji's from "somebody"... the mods can see our usernames.... that forum member (like clockwork) cried to his mod buddies and I got sent on a holiday.... for using emoji's !!

Seems fair? To me the first sentence sounds like you abused the emoji system to harass another user and not as a genuine reaction to a post. I of course can't say for sure because I don't know the exact circumstances and posts but that's what it sounds like.

To be honest I do like to bait a certain forum member who then (like clockwork) cries to his mod buddies who then in turn slap my hand !

Not sure what's going on, but I've started adding people to my ignore list like never before. Is this an influx of rude folks from Thaiger now that it's merged with AN?

I have never had anyone on my ignore list for years. I do keep a personal list though, and there are only three at present. If any poster deliberately tries to upset me, there is a report function and sometimes the chance to upset them back through my own posts.

Very good guidelines. Now it should be the mantra to stop  deleting other people's comments on grounds of the usual "off topic", "inflamatory" , "trolling" etc.... to justify why it is deleted.

Of course if any comment is straighforwardly illegal, nominatively aimed on another member in a rude manner, it obviously has no place to remain. But plainly deleting beacause somebody just reported it for no reason...not sure if that's the best way to make a place grow and develop. I once got deleted just beacause God felt I had posted to many comments, not even rude. The reason given was "take a posting break". That may have been accepted years before, but now with all the competition and other websites ?

A  comment with contents that do plainly do not agree on purely ideological grounds should not be deleted. If so, people will just stop comming and numbers will dwindle IMHO. Same for new members and their subscriptions are on "hold" until "approuval" before they can post. C'mon guys...it's not the immigration office here to have such heavy bureaucracy. 🤣

Aaaah! But the immigration offices make up their own rules. I can't see the Mods or Admins doing that here.

your mods delete or ban people on a whim...

even they know nothing about subject x, their opinion is GOD and don't dare to comment on their comment or it is a ban...

@george  Maybe another one (I am not commenting about any Mod action but the system) is that Mods should not delete a person's posts for whatever reason, without informing them that their post has been deleted for whatever reason. It is really annoying to spend a while writing a 'longer' post (which I hardly ever do 🙂), and then find out later that a mod deleted it because you spelt 'Dissociative' or 'Otorhinolaryngologist' incorrectly.

Possibly your best post ever, certainly your funniest.

Nope! The same rules apply to everyone equally.

and a previous poster said that this forum was like the Immigration offices.

Don't worry about what others say ....   everyone has a different opinion,  even though some on here have a weird answer to others,   if we all had the same opinion and answered similar it would be a pretty boring forum.

We should all just learn to accept each other as they are ... and it's fine to have constructive criticism, it's not fine to be rude and nasty.   I treat us all as one big happy family.

We'll all be gone one day ... like all my relatives, so don't waste what's left by being a fruit cake.

I need another drink. :burp:

Back in the day some members contacted the mods to request that their posts to be put on pre-moderation as they knew they were going to hit the beer with inevitable consequences.

Pre-moderation is a good tool for destroying trolls, the problem is that it requires too much oversight by the mods.

Yes agree 100%  happened to me many times...it should be common courtesy to inform the poster directly that thier post has been deleted or modified...after all the poeple posting here are the content makers...without posters there is no content and eventually no forum.

I have seen several threads where large numbers of posts have been removed, all for valid reasons that involve rule violations. If a removal notice was posted for every offensive post, there would at times be more removal notices than member posts. On the one hand, we want the threads to remain open for debate but on the other, the sight of so many removal notices is off putting and deterrent to member participation. Of course, this problem wouldn't exist, if everyone followed the rules but that frequently doesn't happen. So, if you want a notice that your post has been removed, why not just follow the rules and that way, it wont need to be removed and there'll be no need for a notice.

Other forums have the ability to ignore topics that you are not interested in. That would help and allow the ability to see more topics that you are interested in. A really useful feature. I know AN want me to see every topic but it is annoying seeing topics day in and day out that  am just not interested in. I would not need to scroll by as it would not show.

You know you can do it.
