An octogenarian Thai gentleman from the Isaan region of Chaiyaphum is sounding a desperate call for assistance after two duplicitous women reportedly pilfered his life savings, leaving him bereft of his 150,000 baht nest egg. The scam, which unfolded on Friday, May 10th, has left the victim, a basket trader named Phaen, in a state of consternation and distress.

Deception unfolded as the two fraudsters, purportedly aged between 25-30, arrived at the pensioner's abode on the pretence of being distant relatives. The confidence tricksters further spun their web of deceit by claiming to be lottery ticket sellers, drawing the elderly gentleman into a savvy scam that would see him left penniless.

The two women, having gained Phaen's trust, began their well-rehearsed routine in which one excuses herself to use the loo in the nearby bushes, while the other kept poor Phaen engaged in conversation. On their departure, Phaen's suspicion was piqued, leading him to investigate their spurious lottery ticket claim. His worst fears were confirmed upon discovering his wallet, and the life savings it held, missing from his bedroom.

Adding to the heart-rending plight, Phaen had yet, at the time of our report, to break the news to his bedridden wife of 85, for fear of exacerbating her condition. Surveillance footage painted a vivid picture of the culprits: two women on a white Honda Click 160i motorcycle, one brandishing a grey long-sleeved top, visage obscured by a mask and a black helmet; her accomplice, similarly helmeted, donned a plaid shirt.

Phaen's children have reported the incident to Ban Phet Police Station, informing them that their father is not the first victim of this avicious scam, as it appears the same offenders have also been targeting other elderly, solitary individuals. This tragic incident underlines the need for extra vigilance amongst our more vulnerable citizens and prompts a call for effective initiatives to protect them from such heartless exploitation.

It was a large wallet and a long-drop.

It's a shame that he didn't get any support by neighbours. Was there nobody getting suspicious when suddenly 2 young women appeared?🙏

I must agree without fear of being banned but this AI reporting really is the pits.

What a verbose load of crap. I couldn't read the whole article as it was that bad.

All you posters moaning about the reports and the make up of the English and Grammar have lost sight of the fact that it is probably Thai writers trying to get to grips with our language and the way we construct stories and sentences.  Just go easy on them you lads don't forget where you are and how they manage to get these stories to us I think is very good.
