steven100
GFM seems to be the choice for many families when one dies in Thailand. I think the cremation here and ashes in the backpack or post is alot simpler and obviously cheaper. There's been zero mention of a Thai gf or his mobile or cc's being located in the hotel room. Did something go wrong, did things go missing. many questions need answers. 1

Could be his familiy who've now decided they want to do this? If it was his express wish to be buried in Wales then why not have travel insurance that provides repatriation of his corpse? As to cause of death it amazes me that so many consider an age bracket as some sort of measure of invulnerability from cardiac issues or sudden onset of pulmonary infection involving a type of pneumonia ? 2

So what. Why do you need to know right now? Maybe these are the only details released. What's wrong with you? Do you not know the process of how these types of deaths work? Accept for now he's died. What are the circumstances? Maybe, just maybe we'll have to wait. Edited May 17 by dinsdale

CartagenaWarlock
For the price of reparations for a dead body, a couple of family members can travel to Thailand and have his body cremated.

Fly out to Thailand, have him cremated, and and spread the ashes in a river or sea. 10K quid to repatriate a corpse. I'd give that GFM a pass as it's not a matter of life or death as "death" has already won. There are inexpensive ways to handle this. I've always said, I don't want my family to spend a dime on my death......just collect the money and throw my corpse in the street. 2 1

Popular Post Sheryl
Often in cases like this, friends and extended family want to contribute, and GFM accounts and similar are a handy way of doing that. Does not mean they are "begging" for hand outs from strangers. And no reason for strangers to take offense at it. As to the decision to bring back the body -- their business. 1
SingAPorn
How come the death toll of loner falang tourists is so high in Thailand ? In no other country do tourists pass away so fast. Very sad for the deceased and his family - RIP. P.S. It's up to the British Embassy to pay all expenses and then settle with the family back in UK. London sends billions of pounds worth money and arms to Ukraine so they can surely help their own when in trouble abroad. cmjl
Presumably he didn't have travel insurance to cover getting him back to Wales,if he was 'footloose and fancy free' the chances are he didn't think about the future in which case he wouldn't have a will either, his death will have come as a nasty shock to his family and friends and they possibly won't be thinking sensibly ie have him cremated and take the ashes back to the UK. RIP and condolences to his family

IrishInThailand
Some cost for sure. See this from Kevin Bell Trust : While the cost can be a major barrier for most families who have to repatriate a loved one's body from abroad – costs per repatriation can cost up to £12,000 (€14,000) depending on the circumstances of the death, local charges and hospital release costs – there is also a lot of “red tape”. But some families like a grave stone and a grave I guess. It beats maybe telling the kids/ mother wife/.. well 4 people turned up at your daddys funeral and we not sure where the ashes are now. Some drunken expat threw them in the pattaya bay sinkhole 😞

RJRS1301
15 hours ago, snoop1130 said: A 47 year old machine operator from Pontypridd, South Wales was found dead in his hotel room in Thailand, leaving family and friends devastated. Simon Brown, known as Browny, was discovered lifeless last Saturday, and an investigation into his untimely death is underway. Loved ones describe their state as one of total shock and sadness, as there were no prior indications of ill health. A close friend, Mark Davies, expressed the disbelief shared by many. “It’s just a total shock, it was so unexpected. He wasn’t ill. There was nothing wrong with him. Everyone knew him. He was a crazy bloke – really outgoing and always up for a laugh.” The Welshman was a well-known figure in Trallwn, celebrated for his zest for life and frequent travels to Thailand, a country he adored. His family is now facing the daunting task of repatriating his body, a process that is both lengthy and expensive. They have launched a fundraising appeal to raise £10,000 (approximately 460,000 baht), with over £2,000 already contributed. Davies elaborated on Simon’s life, highlighting his hard-working nature and passion for travel. “He was a hard worker as a machine operator and when he wasn’t working he was always on holiday. In particular, he loved going to Thailand. We don’t know anything at the moment as to the circumstances around it. It only happened on Saturday so we know very little. “We are asking all those who knew and loved Browny to help us bring him back home. As a family, we are now trying to bring Simon back home so that we can lay him to rest at his home in Swansea. Thanks to all those who have reached out and sent messages of condolence, and we appreciate any help you can give.” The GoFundMe campaign, created on Wednesday, has seen an outpouring of support, with nearly 50 donations, including one generous contribution of £500, reported Mirror UK. The Thai authorities have yet to disclose the cause of death or where he was in Thailand when he died.
