  • So the West is to blame for Russia invading a sovereign country at the whim of a despotic dictator? Where do you get your warped one sided information from?

Indeed but Putin decided otherwise.

And how has his two week military exercise furthered his stated aims ? More countries applying for NATO membership is how.

Countries apply for NATO membership they are not annexed into it.

It works both ways. Perhaps the West could have decided otherwise over the years?  Why the animosity towards Russia? The US foreign policy is to continually pressure Russia. But Russia actually does have a legitimate security interest in the area.  Imagine that Russia or China or some other foreign power decided to form an alliance with Mexico and station troops and military equipment on the border with the U.S., including offensive weapons capable of delivering nuclear weapons.  I’m pretty sure the U.S. wouldn’t like that.  Do you know what’s in San Diego?  From Tijuana it’s a very short drive to the Naval facilities and the Naval Air Station on Coronado.

Anyway, NATO’s usefulness as a defensive pact ended long ago.  Now what is it? An offensive alliance for the purpose of threatening Russia?

Putin couldn't have pushed that disinformation better himself.

Nope. It is Russia that has been making the threats and trying to make good on them. Unfortunately, Putin forgot that the west is also sensitive about its security and has rained on his parade.

Oh please. You're dreaming. Ukraine has sent 1000 troops. Do you have any idea how many Russian troops they will be facing soon?

Sure, 1000 armed troops can wreak a bit of havoc, but in the overall narrative of the war this will be a mere curiosity, like the German's Kursk offensive which was far more powerful and still failed.

Vladimir Putin's nightmare grows as 'Ukrainian troops storm another Russian region'

2 Brigades, that's a bit more than a thousand troops, nearer 4000+

The counties who joined NATO after the break up of the USSR did so because they hated the USSR.  They want nothing to do with Russia.

This video appeared in my recommended YouTube feed.  It's not from a large news corporation, but they do provide proven geolocations for all clips shown, and their locations on a map, so appears to be a reputable source.  It contains a number of clips and photos from different locations.  The first one, which comes from Russian television, claims to show an SU-25 recently attacking Ukrainians in a forest in the Kursk region, "putting down" the incursion.  The voice over states that multiple vehicles and soldiers were lost by Ukraine during this attack. Unfortunately for them, it has been proved that the clip is earlier footage, shot in Donetsk.  Russian TV lying to its people? Who would have thought it!

There's also one where a Ukrainian soldier states they're in control of the Russian town of Sudzha, including the Gazprom site, with "all houses intact".  See what you can do using professional soldiers with a clear objective, and not stopping to rape and kill women and children before taking their washing machines and toilets back home?  It doesn't look like this is a hit and run raid, but they're in it for the longer term.  And footage from the captured village of Dmitriukov, to the southeast of Sudzha, clearly confirms Ukraine is extending its push into Russia.

And an interesting photo of an incursion into a new area, opening a second border crossing into Belgorod, on the border south of Sudzha, where, along with the Ukrainian flag, the Georgian one is also clearly displayed.

The final clip is again from Russian TV, showing the Russian response, as truck loads of artillery are headed for the area, and discusses where they might be deployed.  All in very interesting viewing.  (And I haven't even mentioned the clip of a Ukrainian drone targeting the tail rotor of a Russian Mi-8 helicopter).

Right and Putin barely reacted.

People shouldn't buy the NATO excuse for invading Ukraine.

Putin is on record as believing:

Ukraine doesn't exist as a sovereign nation

Ukraine is Russia

Ukraine language, culture, church are garbage.

Ukrainians that resist Russification can either flee or be killed.

Ukraine's resistance to Russia is not a proxy war.

It's a war for the survival of Ukraine as a sovereign nation.

Ukraine's Zelensky acknowledges offensive in Russia

In his Saturday address, President Zelensky thanked Ukraine's "warriors", and said he had discussed the operation in Russia with the country's senior military commander Oleksandr Syrsky.
"Ukraine is proving that it can indeed restore justice and ensure the necessary pressure on the aggressor," he added.

More than 76,000 people have already been evacuated from the border area, according to Russia's state Tass news agency, and Mr Smirnov said on Sunday he had ordered officials to speed up the operation to get civilians to safety.

It wouldn't take much for some of the Ukrainian troops in Kursk to sneak around down into Belgorod oblast, and attack the Russian troops at the Kharkhiv border from the back.

I suspect a few dozen special forces could cause mayhem if they could make it down into the contested Kharkhiv area.

All along the front lines, from the far north to far south Ukrainian soldiers will be following the news and their moral will be soaring.

On the other side of no man's land the Russian soldiers will also be following the news and listening to propaganda about how the Ukrainian incursion has been halted and thrown back with crippling losses. At the same time they will be thinking..WTF ?

Are we fighting  in Russia now ? Is this what winning means ?

Quite probably

Getting the low down from his generals, doesn't look too happy

Almost 900 days into a two week war, this not what Putin had in mind.
