A recently released survey by the Thai Ministry of Digital Economy and Society has unveiled intriguing insights into public opinion on government performance. Conducted between April 22nd and May 15th, 2024, the survey involved 6,970 participants aged 16 and older, who were interviewed in person.

The results show that a substantial 83.9% of respondents regularly keep up with government public information. Television is the primary source for 69.6% of these individuals, followed by Facebook at 46.2%, government websites at 23.8%, acquaintances and relatives at 16%, and the messaging app Line at 15.5%.

In terms of overall satisfaction with the government's operations, the responses were varied but leaned positive: 44.3% reported being highly satisfied, 39.6% indicated moderate satisfaction, 14.1% expressed minimal satisfaction, and only 2% were wholly dissatisfied.

Interestingly, certain demographics showed higher satisfaction levels. People from southern Thailand, those with lower incomes, and individuals without a bachelor's degree were generally more pleased with government performance.

When asked about specific government policies, the 30-baht healthcare scheme received the most praise, with 68.4% approval. The debt suspension policy for farmers was lauded by 38.9%, and the tourism stimulation policy garnered 33.1% approval.

The survey also highlighted public priorities for government action. Controlling consumer product prices was an urgent measure for 75.3% of respondents. Additionally, 46.6% called for reducing electricity bills, 29.5% for lowering fuel prices, 26.3% for tackling illicit substances, and 16.9% for addressing low agricultural prices.

Overall, the survey paints a complex but largely positive picture of public sentiment toward the Thai government's current policies and performance.

So a government survey that finds 84 percent of the respondents are satisfied with the government's performance. I guess they must have mainly asked other members of the government.

Of course readers of AN know best.
