Has anyone had a good experience dating/marrying a bar girl or prostitute in Thailand?

I know this topic is somewhat cliché but I am wondering if there are success stories of men who have married or had serious relationships with bar girls or prostitutes. Has anyone been able to feel like their former prostitute girlfriend/ wife truly left this life behind if they were only doing it out of necessity and make a good and honest girlfriend/wife? I am sure some responses will be horror stories and that is understandable but I am especially interested in hearing about success stories. Thank you.

It's not a simple case of good Thai girl Vs terrible Thai hooker, there are various degrees, there are lots of very nice, often well educated Thai gals doing bar work around the country, and then there are hardened whores with drug issues and histories of STDs working in Pattaya soi 6 and the Beach Road. I've known lots of TGs who did bar work and then married foreign guys, many went to settle in their husband's country and they made good wives, good mothers, good home-keepers, years later they are still together. I've also known some guys who got married to more hardened TGs and had dreadful times...their Thai wives gambled away heaps of their money, some would go off for extended periods with other guys they met. So there are many disaster stories out there, but also many happy success stories. As a general rule of thumb, the longer a TG spends working in the bar/nightlife industry the more men she has had, the more bad experiences she has had, therefore the more devious, dishonest and hardened she has become.

I met my gf in a bar. She was the cutest dancer on stage. I took her out of the bar, and we are mostly happy together since many years.

She had just started to work in a bar, her bigger sister decided that is what she should do.

When my gf was out of the bar she didn't miss it, because she was not used to bar girl life for years.

 

I also know other couples where the girl or woman worked in a bar, some for many years. Some of those relationships work just fine, others not so much.

I think it is mostly a question of expectations. If both have a good idea what to expect, and what not, then that is fine. I think guys who live here since many years and frequent bars have mostly a good idea what to expect. Some of them know their girl a long time before they become a couple.

Guys who just arrive have mostly no idea what to expect - and obviously get it wrong.

 

And then there is the big question of what is the big difference between bar girls and "normal" girls. Lots of non-bargirls also want a rich guy and money. And some of them also f*$#^ed around with the highest bidder before they settled. IMHO the idea that a normal girl is always better than a bargirl is just wrong. Maybe she is, but maybe not. It's a question of the individual person and not a group of people.

 

Last but not least, what I like about the idea with bargirls is that it's easy to meet hundreds of them in person. Go to a bar, look at them, make eye contact, buy them a drink, and if you like her take her out. Maybe for an hour or a night or a week on the beach and look where it goes.

Obviously there will be lots of bar girls who are not what you want. Mostly you will know that before you bought her the 2nd drink. So, move on, look for another one.

Define "good experience"?  I met my wife 15 years ago in Pattaya and we've been married for 8 years, with a 9-year-old child.  Fingers crossed it remains a successful relationship/marriage, but who knows what the future holds?

Unless you met your partner in high school, there's no way of knowing what her previous occupations were, or how many men she had.

 

But the divorce rate is over 50% indicating to me most women don't make good life partners.

 

At least you know a hooker isn't averse to sex!

In comparison marrying that young educated Christian virgin from a good family may well be a taking bigger chance.

Good point. You never know, maybe all will be fine in the future, maybe not.

I find it always interesting when some people here post that after a few years together their wife showed her true self and she planned from the beginning to get all his money. Really?

How many Thais plan ahead? Maybe until the next rent has to be paid, but that is as long time as it gets for many of them.

We change over time. Sometimes both in the same direction and sometimes in different directions. That's life.

There are undoubtedly success stories, but it's not human nature to come on forums and talk about how great one's life is, so it's doubtful there will be many, if any positive replies.

I am getting married later this year.

My soon to be wife is the best woman I have ever met.

We met in London in 2020 during Covid and our love grew from there.

 

She was a single mother at 19 and came from an area in Thailand known for poverty. I don’t think she would have chosen to do it if she had other options. She didn’t do it because she was greedy and a drug addict. 
 

She has built a nice home for her parents and her children (she has 2, the youngest I might adopt, but has the body of a teenager) and supported them all and brought them up to a middle class standard of life. She has also bought some land which she rents out and a condo in Pattaya which also gives her some passive income.

 

The culture is different here than in the west and she is highly respected for “taking care” of her family. And sex work is not frowned upon like in the West, with many Thai women doing some sort of sex work at some point of their lives. A lot of them are good girls who don’t even drink alcohol. My girl doesn’t have tattoos and thinks they are “dirty”.

 

Thai women are famous for it all around the world. It is an acceptable occupation for the pretty women to get them out of the poverty trap. My wife is a real head turner.

And smart. Very smart.

How many people do you know that have never paid for a Thai woman? Not many I bet.

A lot of westerners I have met with Thai women make up stories about how they met and you know they are living a lie. 

A few of my long time friends back home said some nasty things about her and I chose to never speak to them again. Other friends have got to know her and think she is great.
Not a single Thai has said anything untoward as it is normal here.
 

I have never been happier and we are at an age that we will happily settle down together. I haven’t got a crystal ball but sometimes you “just know.”
