He may be old, flabby, and far from handsome, but a Western husband can bring a lifetime of happiness, according to a new book advising Thai women on how to meet and marry foreign men.
"Foreign Boyfriend, Foreign Husband," with chapters written by Thai women already married to "farang," or foreigners, sells a Cinderella-style dream to young Thai women hoping for a passport to a better life.

With enough wealth, Gomer Pyle looks like Brad Pitt to your average woman - Thai or otherwise.

I’m going to play a little Bill Maher here, as in his, “I don’t know it for a fact; I just know it’s true”.

The % of Thai females who marry foreign men is likely 10-20-30 times higher than, say, American women who marry non-US citizens. I don’t know if that makes any Thai men angry or not. Most all males are tribal, but I don’t think one nationality more than any other. Given the large number of Thai-foreigner marriages, it would seem many Thai women are attracted to foreign men, and there can be a variety of reasons for that.

In the past the reasons might have been different, such as poverty and a chance at a more comfortable life. Lots of members here seem to have married Thai ‘cashiers’, office workers, and even a few professionals (doctors, lawyers). Why did those Thai women choose you, other than you being an absolute stud muffin? They could have had a nice Thai man, so why?

These marriages are still happening, though I don’t know if the percentages have changed. Any data out there?

I’m not sure Thai and foreign men are attracted to different Thai women, either. I know that’s what many like to say, but in my travels out and about in the country, I see no difference. I see Thai men with women whose skin is the classic Isaan brown, and foreign men with Thai women who look like they’ve never seen the sun. I think at the top socio-economic level of Thai society, marriages might be more business relationships than love and attraction. Obviously, that could be dead wrong, but Family X might want to tie in with Family Y, so their marrying age kids team up/suffer the consequences. Middle class Thai men just fall in love, and she could be alabaster shade or mocha.

Mia nois are also quite common here, and I would guess more so than in, say, the US (affairs or GFs). We’ve even seen a re-emergence of a word we all might have thought had been retired to the pages of history: consort. Most mia noi relationships are for sex. I think I have stumbled on to a few (I won’t mention by name a particular upscale hotel where these trysts often take place). Maybe I’m wrong again, but when I see a 50-60 year old Thai man climb out of a Ferrari with a 20 year old lovely woman, I don’t think he’s her uncle. The women I have seen in this regard would be attractive to the vast majority of foreign males. I’m also going to guess that if some well-heeled foreigner offered the woman more than an afternoon of sex and room service, and she took it, the Thai fellow would be angry.

Women who go into prostitution, subtracting the ones forced by human trafficking, have a thinking problem, usually coming from being abused as children, having an immoral mom or dad, or both, or not having a father or good male role model in their lives. Making more money selling your body is never  positive thing, no matter what they make, because it comes at a cost. To their psyche, to their kids, and to anyone associated with them, meaning how they are looked at. They might buy land, houses and cars, but behind their basks, they are despised. .

While I might be wrong again here, I disagree with your statement about despised.

It's not my morality here. It seems wealth and success are admired no matter how it was achieved. Some uber wealthy are corrupt as all get out, yet they are respected and admired members of Thai society. On more than a few occasions I have had it explained to me that the mere existence of wealth is proof of a past life well lived. How can one argue with that (especially a non-believer like me who sees zero correlation between success and goodness)?

As Bob pointed out, the definition of a whore (meaning what we go by when we look up words on Wiki or in Websters) is a woman that goes with men for money, as a prostitute.

Well, that pretty much sums it up for the majority of women on the planet.  There is nothing sexier than a man with money who is willing to lavish that money on their dates and girl-friends, therefore, most women are whores and prostitutes given that definition.  Including Mrs. John bob smith.

Complete Bullsh__ or bullocks depending on country of origin.

Contrary to what you think not all Thai women think marriage to a farang is a dream come true.

While there are some successful marriages/relationships many are miserable in their relationships because Mr Perfect Farang turns out to be one of several of the following.  Abuser, drunk, control freak, slob,  nutter, lack of money as compared to what he told her, deadbeat dad, unfaithful, cheap Charlie, bad hygiene and more.

Money guarantees nothing.  Plenty of guys getting knocked back because the girls have no interest in them.  “Hab period “.

I think that the thais in general giggle when the falang thinks he is the only man in his new thai lady's life. Not to mention that the falang is mainly the golden goose to sponsor. When it comes to be considered plainly attractive in fact most asians do not find western men attractive. It's the money that gives the attraction,

Where do these generalizations come from?

Are you suggesting this is particular to Asian women? Western men can find a wide range of women beautiful, from Asian to South Asian to African to Middle Eastern to Latin. Somehow Asian women don't have similar open interest? Watch a movie with some Asian women. They go crazy over young Leo di Caprio, Cillian Murphy, young Richard Gere and many others.

I think beauty is beauty and we're all attracted to it, no matter its source.

Despised might have been a strong word but from what I've been told and seen, it's close. I've never looked at wealth as anything besides corruption and greed, using others or damaging the planet for profit. This of course leaves out the lottery winners and those that actually use their wealth for good, along with some that have made money with a great idea. A lot of people don't understand that a lot of super wealthy families, and world leaders,  got that way by killing others or cheating them out of their land. Preying on them when they were in need and taking advantage of them because of it. There are American families that are well respected who had ancestors who started out with 160 acres of land, which is what a lot of land grab got them, then turned that into over a million acres by ridding themselves of neighbors by those before mentioned actions. Texas has quite a few of them. This is before the oil was discovered or cattle were such a huge market. I'm a believer and see that most people who are good don't necessarily have good lives., and a lot are preyed on by those that couldn't care less if there was a God or not.

Generally speaking do the Thai men get jealous of us? Or is there enough to go around? They are promiscuous.

And do Thai men usually shun women after they have been with a farang?
Personally if I knew a girl had previous had black boyfriends I would look at this as a negative.

In your dreams.   And most that farangs are hooking up (paying for), they wouldn't touch with a bamboo pole.

That last sentence is a bit telling ... Untitled.png

Spot on. I have been trying to decide between the two myself. Whereas the current incarnation is a complete knob, he does seem to have a miniscule degree of additional intelligence than the aforementioned pair of morons. I am still undecided.

A few posts were removed to clean things up. You know, even a totally daft topic can be useful if people can learn something from the replies. We'd appreciate it if you could continue the conversation without slurs against women though.

Thank you. 😉

Yes, I believe Thai males are jealous.  The ladies though prefer Asian men with money.  So, Korean and Japanese seem to have the best chances.  An old shriveled up alcoholic expat with a lousy 35,000 b a month pension is not at the top of their list.

The ladies prefer anyone who can take care of them without cheating, abuse or being drunk all the time. If this occurs in a local, that's what they'll go for. The problem is, this being a country high in gossiping, word gets around that most Thai men cheat, and a foreigner is a better bet both as a loyal partner and one who will provide, as most make more than the average local ever will. Hi-so's stick with Hi-so's usually anyway, so that leaves the majority of women, who are just getting by or a little better. What Thai women still don't understand, is that a lot of foreigners are cheaters and abusers, and this they'll learn after awhile living with them. An old, shriveled up alcoholic expat with 35K a month is still a better provider than many, and being an alcoholic also matches a lot of locals, as a boring country has to have a pastime to keep people occupied. Women can be happy as long as they come home to someone who's loyal and has enough to get them by better than they were doing beforehand.

From some of your other posts I had wondered if you are serious or just trolling.

Others had questioned your sincerity in different threads - I was suspicious but gave you the benefit of the doubt - until now.

You claim to be relatively new to Thailand, asking questions about property and business etc. yet you now purport to have knowledge of Thai society.

However, your knowledge is seriously flawed and also limited to only a section of Thai society.

We have more money - when Thai guys are rich, they are seriously rich.

Thai women falling over themselves to get a farang - only the section you deal with. Most middle class or rich Thai women won't date a foreigner as they are looked down upon by their peers.  There are exceptions - I'm talking about most.

Thai women are open to a big age gap - again, that depends on which section of society you are talking about.  It also depends on their intentions.  There are some girls, some not many, for whom age is not a barrier but ask your average Uni girl what age group she's looking at when choosing a boyfriend and you'll soon see the error of your ways.  Put yourself in their position, would you, as a 25 year old, be looking at 60 year old women?  There is a reason why SOME Thai girls will accept, even look for, a much older guy.

35K??? Well, I suppose if living in a fan room or a bit more upscale at Nirun Condos if one desires..

Food carts, Chang in a paper bag from 7-11.  Watching everyone else having a good time.  Living the dream!

Forget Beefeaters but one might be able to talk down a Beach Road girl to 500 baht once a month.

But most of all one will be a big hit with ladies.  They dig guys that have 35k baht a month.  It turns them on.
