That did not change when I got married.

...it does, however, change for western females who marry Thai men.

How do you feel about that?

Why live in Thailand full time bob? Get a Cambodian visa then fly around as you see fit.

I am really thinking about it.

I'm not sure Mrs. Smith likes the idea though..

I don't do 90 day reports because it is understood I can just pay a fine.

Yes, but you can't do an extension without a TM47 and the TM30 filed.

It may be that non filing of TM47 in your record becomes a big deal e.g just as you can't get an Elite with post amnesty overstays, you may find difficulties if you have a record of fines for non filing TM47.

This ^

Since enforcement of 90 day reporting is now perfected almost to a science, the penalties can indeed accumulate when you need something from your IO in the future.

They can, if they feel like it, use it against you to potentially deny your next extension.

I hate to be pedantic (no I don't, I LOVE it).

The shortest sentence in the English language is, "Go." The subject ("You") is inferred.

CAN'T argue with that longest one!

This is something I do when I go with wife to do an extension. She helps me out as she owns a house, and this is where I am registered.

It may become a bid deal, but last time (when I did a 60-day extension to visit wife) they did not even fine me for missing 3 90-day reports, they were completely clueless.

This is why I have a great confidence they will never implement this tax nonsense, They are just not very smart to track even 1% of what they proposed.

I am still inclined to agree with you.

However, I have a feeling that they may just go through with the implementation of it before backtracking after a few weeks once the complaints start rolling in..

only time will tell!

I don't share your confidence, all they have to do is push the responsibility onto us by making a tax return a requisite on anyone filing for an extension after more than 180 days in country and past filing date for that year.

Also increased data capture will make it a lot easier for them.

I think one year extensions probably attract a lot more scrutiny than 60 day ones. There is no way you would have got away with that at CW with a one year extension.

Another thing I never expected is to file taxes if not working in Thailand. When this happens, I am out and forever. This I did not sign up for,

Well we have to do that already in the first place technically speaking right? If living here for 180 days or more. Or what? The first time we all need to do that would be early next year. I'm kind of waiting for that first year to end and see what the news says, if it is bad, I'll be out. Not gonna file anything.

That's fine, if you sleep 10 hours after that and then spend 9 hours sober.

mokwit--do you know of any other person that is arrested and locked up in IDC , when their Passport is just sitting at home/Hotel/...  maybe your reading to many of Bob's fear posts.

Yes its always good to have your Passport on your phone, or at least back up with photo copy, in case its lost.

You would be taken to immigration first to identify who you are. Only if that is impossible, you would end up like that in the IDC. But you could for sure end up being in jail over night or even for a weekend, if not having it on your person + no phone.

I have seen African gentlemen on a police bike 3 up heading down a soi and I presume they were going back to apartment for them to produce, so yes that possibility exists, but there is no guarantee. The IO's that stopped me had the big black van and it was a fair walk from my condo.

I doubt that was about immigration, specially if it was on a bike. That was more likely to collect a bribe lol. They moved a friend of mine arrested for driving drunk that way to the police station too, to then start talking about options on the way and stopping at a ATM... He was on the way a few mins later.

Yes possibly that would be the initial step, or go back to your residence for you to produce, but what I suggested is not impossible. Do they have holding cells at CW or is IDC the holding cell.

My point was that it COULD go very wrong, not that it automatically would. What I suggested was a possible worst case scenario.

That's why I always carry my passport, even everyone thinks im a fool, never had issues losing my property, if I go out, specially in Bangkok. Having that during a raid in a club also ensures your the first to be on your way.

So ChaiyaTH you are saying if you walk out of your hotel with out your passport (which I would advise everyone to do when shopping) and you get stopped for a check---you will end up in the IDC prison ??

Are you related to Bob or something....................:w00t:

Maybe read again, what I said, and then you know the answer. Yes I always carry my passport if I go out further than 15 mins from my house, same as my wallet and phone. As well most times my laptop and chargers. I do that since 10 years.

Everyone should do what they want but if you go out in Bangkok, specially at night, you are smart to bring it with you. I always have everything with me, to basically be able to leave the country, if wanted or needed. Clothes are easy to buy again anyway. I store my to-go bags at MRT stations.

Im used to always carrying my passport as it is a law in my country and I never had a ID card / always a passport.

Most of them have, I never been there myself in Bangkok but pretty sure there is something. But maybe not, maybe that is why Bangkok is always so much worse in these situations. It would explain the stories.

I was within 15 minutes from my condo when stopped. Oftentimes I don't carry my 'phone, let alone passport.

I remember one time I was walking home up my soi and there were a couple of African gentlemen walking slightly ahead of me when a [actually "the"] big black van stops along side them and two IO's jump out of the door onto them and wrestle them to the ground. If I had been walking alongside of them as I overtook them they probably would have jumped on me as well.

As I walked past they were going through their passports and they did not stop me.

Rethink that 15 minute radius.
