In Surat Thani, a wanted Russian DJ found himself in police custody after a hit-and-run incident on Pha Ngan Island. The accident resulted in serious injuries to a motorbike rider.

According to the Koh Pha Ngan Tourist Police, the incident occurred on July 30th of last year. Mr. Vigen, driving a white SUV, collided with a motorbike on Pha Ngan Island. The motorbike rider sustained severe injuries, but the SUV driver fled the scene. Law enforcement officers tracked down the suspect using nearby CCTV footage.

On Friday, July 5th, authorities arrested Mr. Vigen, a 36-year-old Russian national, at a residence in the Baan Tai sub-district of Koh Pha Ngan district. He faces charges of reckless driving resulting in serious injuries and damage to other property.

So let's get this straight.....hit and run July 30  "2023", and "Law enforcement officers tracked down the suspect using nearby CCTV footage" and made an arrest July 5 "2024"......Wow, fast work guys!!!  555555555555

Maybe he fled the Island after the accident and they eventually got him.

Russians sure seem to account for an outsized portion of the crimes committed by foreigners here.  I don't think it's simply biased reporting, as I've seen others claim.

Why did it take them a year to find this guy?

Perhaps he left Thailand last year and has recently returned...

"Interestingly, Mr. Vigen is a well-known Russian superstar and DJ who previously worked in various tourist provinces in Thailand. His recent return to Pha Ngan Island was to perform at the Full Moon Party".

So if that was true, should he not have been arrested on his arrival (wherever that may have been)????

Not  "at a residence" as mentioned in the article?   Oops forgot, TIT!!

He has 1,127 followers on Instagram and under 100 on Facebook. Not exactly a superstar. Very few Russians are. Perhaps only in his own mind.

His status wasn't the point of my comment, it was his possible location.

Perhaps there wasn't a warrant at that time.

If they had "nearby" CCTV  evidence right away, why wouldn't a warrant be issued right away?

In the circumstances immediately after the accident, a warrant may not have been necessary to make an arrest.
