Why so many travel to Thailand to commit suicide?

Featured Replies

Actually ,  so many foreigners come here to "get back to nature"  .   Many of them get hopelessly tangled up in the vines,  or bitten by the love bug in the concrete jungles.

Last but not least ....... there are the animal lovers .  It all looks so easy,  and then they find out that keeping the buffalo healthy and happy is almost impossible .

When somebody wants to die what's better place than Thailand?

It offers last big round of pleasures; cheap tricks and plenty of good food and drinks.

Maybe they saw an old adv; " Thailand - the place to die for!"

Suicides happen everywhere it’s just not news where we are from… :coffee1:

It really baffles me that so many foreigners seem to travel to Thailand just to end their life. Why is that? The amount of what they call falling down, which I call balcony jumpers are amazing. When writing this, I think we had 3 days in a row with people said to be falling from different heights. I thought it was supposed to be nice, relaxing and fun to travel to a foreign destination. Why, just not end it in home?

LOL.

It's the best place to spend the last of one's money before exiting.

What would be the point of leaving money unspent and exiting from a horrible, boring, pointless life in a boring cold country?

So much better to spend one's last days in a nice warm country with some cute company.

IMO most don't choose to die out of despair, as they would exit from wherever they are. The ones that go to LOS to exit just have no hope of a better life and prefer a happy ending to an unhappy one in a country with no time for them, no prospects and no money to make a difference.

If I only had a state pension, I'd likely have gone the Thai exit long ago.

So, in short. Unintelligent persons with no ideas of how to take care of themselves.

In very short, No I don´t!

Financial problems mixed with relationship problems & drinking.

The problems are there before arrival and get amplified in a foreign country with no support from friends and family.

You assume that we all have support from family and friends. I was on my own from age 11 when I was banished to boarding school. I worked in the holidays.

That´s rough man! Most people don´t know how to cook an egg at that age.

Before I was sent to boarding school I was a boy scout, and learned all sorts of things in it, including how to cook.

Considering I've been cooking for myself for most of my life, it was a very good organisation to belong to. I know it's still around, but it's more or less invisible compared to when I was in it, with "Bob a Job" and such like.

People are jumping up and down about the 15 year old going on a trip by himself, but I flew from Sydney to Auckland on my own at age 9. However, I'm pretty sure the hostess kept an eye on me.

Yeah, I did much myself at a very young age too, as my father was a dork and my mother listen to my father. hehe.

However, I find it as something good today and also at younger age. There are just too many persons in the world that lacks the ability to take care of themselves.

I think you need some positive people to talk to daily plus nature. Far too many negative people and too much concrete.

Are you referring to me, as owner of the thread? If so, how do you know I have too much concrete around me?

Also, where are the negative people?

I have a lot of positive persons to talk to on a daily basis. The thread is not created because I am negative nor have a bad environment around me. I created it after reading of a lot of suicides regarding foreigners in Thailand during a lot of years.

My advice to you, is that you stop assuming you know things about people, and that you take care about your own deeply rooted problems. If not, it might lead to depression and suicide.

Ask yourself if you'd rather off yourself after spending the last of your money having a good time in a warm country, or off yourself in a cold country having had nothing enjoyable and  leaving any money you couldn't spend for someone else.

Ok, I am asking myself........Oh! Have an answer. I wouldn´t off myself in any circumstance, as a normal person knows that life can go up and down, and also knows that there are possibilities to come back from a hard time.

You didn't think that one through.

Cancer patient, no surgeon will operate as a hopeless case, 6 weeks to live, pain relief doesn't touch it, life is agony, zero prospects of recovery.

I take it you will take 6 weeks of screaming over ending it sooner.

BS! You don´t need 6 weeks of screaming. They have pain killing methods for such things. Yes, I would like to spend that time with my kids as much as possible. Maybe can´t spend if in hospital, but I would love every visit.

If they had suicide pills with no pain and 100% strike rate they would be hugely popular.

The South African Police were pretty deft at it in December 1977 from the 6th floor.

Totally with Kirsty on this one. Did the French exchange student swap a number of times from age 13, admittedly the first ones were organised, however became best mates with a boy from Bordeaux, so used to bus / train / ferry or fly direct by myself.

Had experience, as was dispatched to Boarding School from Singapore from age 8.

Turning into a bit of the 4 Yorkshire Men sketch.

Tell that to the kids today, and they won't believe a word of it.

and no one would have batted an eyelid at that. Just handed over to the airline staff to keep an eye on.

Seems we have something in common as I lived in Singapore to age 9. Did you get dragged off to the Swimming club? I learned to swim there, and they had movies too. I was freaked out during Wizard of OZ- I think it was the bat creatures that did it.

My father was some bigwig in the government and we lived on Goodwood Hill where the nobs lived.

Don't remember too much about it though. I did live there in the 70s and it was interesting seeing where we used to live and the school I went to ( the Harbour Board school ).

Indeed. Nursing homes would have plenty of spare beds.

Cyanide seems to work well, but getting it would be a problem.

BS yourself. Of course some terminal pain is not touched by morphine, which is why civilized countries allow for euthanasia.

Cyanide but hard to get hold of, next best might be carbon monoxide from the car, another advantage over eV's

People have different ways of ending themselves. The Roman way, drowning, jumping, chemically assisted. If they are resuscitated, they will repeat the procedure used. They don't change to another method.

One thing about jumping, there are almost no repeaters. Not from 14 floors up.

Takes courage to jump from floor 20.

I prefered more than 30 floors when jumping. Have done it from 27. but a bit low actually
