Splitting my time between Thailand & my originating country....

The person I was typing to was looking for 6 month stay.

After flying in visa exempt 60 + 30 day extension he would require ONE border bounce+ extension to obtain 6 month stay.

Hardly requires "strict records of dates"

Open pp to look.

I was just giving a general idea what people can look forward to here for long term stays or retirement.

Keeping track of dates in general and running in circles in one way or another is very much on the cards here.

OP wasn't looking for a long term stay, just up to 6 months per year.

One entry via air and another by border bounce within the same year doesn't need checking, it's well within the regulations.

I really appreciate your comments, I think the SETV with 60+30 and doing a border run is a viable and easy option. As you say if 60 days gets canned in the future, I'll do a METV for a relatively small cost 😎. Thanks again, Phil

Or just keep it to 5 months in. This year you can do 60 day exempt plus 30 day extension. Then leave for a couple days or longer and come back 60 days ( if still exempt) or 30 days exempt easily extendable for 30 days and leave.  No METV needed. If things change next year just get an easy 60 day tourist visa and extend that 30 days. Then leave and come back 30 days exempt and extend 30 days. I've been doing this for many years ( except Covid years). Pretty easy.

I travel to the US two or three, sometimes as many as four times a year. Usually for about a month each time, it's very pleasant, a nice change of pace. I get to see my friends and family and do cultural things that are not available here. At the end of one month I'm so ready to come back.

I have a retirement visa and I plan on keeping it, as it's multiple entry, and it's very easy to travel with.

Seems that you may have a non O-A.

That would require insurance and require ongoing new non O-A

Perhaps you actually have have extensions based on retirement from a non O and but multi reentry permit. Your post is not clear.

Did you read the OP.

He does not want option you outlined.

The OP wants 6 month in Thailand (continuous) and 6 out (home country)

When I got my O-A it was not that easy. I had to get criminal background checks (took weeks) and go in for fingerprinting.

I also had to see some quack doctor I picked out of the phone book to do the routine visa health form (syphilis, etc) who insisted on a complete blood work battery, medical history and a physical requiring multiple visits before he would sign the simple visa form because I was a "new patient". If I had to pay that out of pocket it would not be worth getting the O-A.

He also billed my insurance for over $2k+ USD before we were one and done. I finally got the form signed though. It was a two or three month process end to end altogether for everything.

Do not understand your posts

The OP wants to spend 6/6 split

Thailand (continuous) and home country.

Your non O-A detail is off topic.

Non O-A nothing to do with this thread.

Worst option for the OP.

Hi there, would like to find out if anyone out there is splitting their time (50/50 or there abouts) between Thailand and their home country, or have any good advice.

I am contemplating doing this and if there are people out there doing that, what Visa do you enter Thailand on? I am currently here on a OA visa.

Any info would be greatly appreciated, Phil

I started doing this last year. The visa thing was a bigger hassle than I expected so I was seriously thinking of going somewhere else this year. The new 5 year DTV lets me stay for 180 days without having to worry about travel dates and questions from immigration officers and dealing with more paperwork and bureaucracy, so it should be much easier now with that option.

I first applied for an O-A during covid and the med certificate was found almost impossible in USA.

I was told flat out  "no"about  3 times,  maybe for 2500 hundred dollars and three months ,  and also

" You have to go to Substance Abuse counseling with a specialist first because I can't just sign a paper that says you are not an alcoholic".

Finally, I got it for 75 bucks on an online Doctor site with some quack who does not even examinate you. He was a Hmong guy by the way

A form you can get in any Thai hospital in a few hours

Personally, I will do 3 months Thailand, using the 60 exempt plus 30

then 3 mnths Cambodia, going there Visa exempt and extending for 1 year

back to Thailand on the 60 exempt plus 30 , but will only stay here 89 days

back to Cambodia for the last 3 mnths and 1 day.

I have a house here in Thailand............and is possible to rent month to month in Cambodia.

Thailand pisses me off if im here too long anyway..........so its a good fit, and can travel all of Cambodia.

The next year, as above, but maybe Laos instead of Cambodia

The next year maybe PH............anywhere is SE Asia is ok for me.

It's a "Visa On Arrival" in Cambodia - and to be able to apply for the one-year Visa in-country, you need to ask for the "Other" visa when you enter - not the "tourist" visa.  I think it was $5 more for the "Other", when I last did this years ago.

Unless things have changed, you can also get a 6-mo visa - saves some $$, if you will only stay that long.  The 6-mo or more gets you  "multiple entry" at no extra-charge.

I wonder if the Thai hospital bothers with an examination. So like many other things here, you get the paper but it does not mean much.

At the Hospital in Chiang Mai I used, they give you a syph test. Really nice phlebotomy ladies you don’t barely feel it

May I ask how do you fly there?

I fly via Tokio or Osaka, starting from BKK or Saigon. Then to LAX, SFO or LAS.
