Springfield, Ohio man reported Haitian migrants snatching geese out of park 2 weeks ago

Featured Replies

This reminded me of an incident when I and my wife were holidaying in Chiang Mai some years ago.  My wife (Thai, but not from Chiang Mai) remarked that the people of Chiang Mai could have made Khlong Mae Kha more attractive to locals and visitors by introducing ducks to the waterway (as there are on many canals and rivers in the West), but then she realised that it was not workable because "Thai people would eat the ducks".

And yet the white liberals of the forum, who have never been to Springfield or lived amongst Haitians in their neighborhoods claim it’s all false.

No. As has been posted in multiple news reports earlier in this thread, it's the Republican governor of Ohio, Springfield city officials and county officials there who all have said that thus far, they have no credible evidence or substantiated reports that support the animal claims that have been made by Trump and Vance.

What there has been is a lot of spurious social media reports that, when tracked down and documented, have been shown to NOT have any connection to Haitians in Springfield. And, one citizens call that went to the county sheriff's communications center there claiming ducks were being taken from a park likewise was investigated and has remained unsubstantiated.

That's a recap of the credible news reports that have been posted here, and what state, county and city officials there continue to report up through today.

Like I said before.  The mayor, city council or even the GOVERNOR doesn’t know what really goes on in the dwellings of the Haitians.

I’ll believe the citizens with boots on the ground vs politicians trapped in their offices.

The "citizens with boots on the ground", as you call them, are responding to a bunch of debunked social media reports and imagery, many widely spread on right-wing accounts as the ABC report (among others) recounts below, that purported to involve Springfield but in fact have not been shown to have any or any substantiated connection to Haitians in Springfield...including:

--the actual case of a non-Haitian, American-born woman elsewhere in Ohio who is being prosecuted for killing and attempting to eat a cat, which social media reports then falsely linked to Springfield and Haitians.

--a real photo of a man carrying a bird that has been shown to have been taken far away at a different Ohio city (Columbus) many weeks ago, and the person who took the photo has told news agencies that he has no idea who the man was carrying the bird and had no indication the man was Haitian. That photo likewise was falsely linked in social media to Springfield.

...and a Facebook post about a supposed dead cat found in Springfield that was something like a third-hand hearsay report, and likewise, never substantiated as either true or having anything to do with Haitians.

Please listen to The View's Sunny Hostin's comments in the attached clip about Haitian-Americans.  Trump's demonization of them shows a horrible ignorance of the community. It's plain and simply naked racism, just as are Trump's constant references to immigrants coming from the "Congo."

I have had the pleasure to know several Haitian-Americans over the course of my life. They are generally known for their work ethic, intelligence, and affability.  As Sunny Hostin noted in her remarks, they are generally credited for economically revitalizing the Springfield area. A quote from a Vanity Fair article about the infamous NYC police brutality case involving Abner Louima, who happened to be a Haitian immigrant: There was a saying in the neighborhood: "Hire a Haitian off the boat and soon they own the business and have another Haitian working for them." (https://www.vanityfair.com/magazine/1997/12/louima199712)

Before Trump, neo-Nazis pushed false claims about Haitians as part of hate campaign

Trump’s line at the debate was the culmination of a weekslong rumor mill that appears to have at least been amplified by Blood Tribe, which has sought to demonize the local Haitian community online and in person. The debate drew more than 67 million viewers, according to the media analytics company Nielsen.

As with most rumors, the beginning of the baseless claims about Haitians eating pets in Springfield is hard to pinpoint, but Blood Tribe undoubtedly helped spread it.

It sounds like you believe the neo-Nazis who started the rumors. How would they know what's really going on in the dwellings of Haitians?

Most of legacy media reports conflated information when it comes to political issues yet you choose to continually be duped by it.

Thanks to Riclag for another excellent thread with documented facts, which are relevant to the current debate.

The truth about what happened in Springfield will no doubt come out in due course.

But publish and posting lies has never been a problem for Trump or his tribe. Sadly millions of Americans and even posters on AN seem to believe those lies, despite them being debunked and the truth spoken out.

There are no documented facts in this thread showing that Haitians (or anyone else) are snatching geese, dogs, cats or people's pets in Springfield.

If you think there are, please point them out.

The beautiful thing is that, before the debate, nobody had even heard of Springfield Ohio, much less the problems they were having.

Had Trump simply mentioned the 15-20,000 Haitians that had caused traffic problems, jammed the healthcare facilities, caused so much trouble in the schools because the kids don't speak English, and on, and on, it would have all been forgotten a few minutes after the debate.

Mention eating cats, and Springfield and its migrant problem is all some people can talk about, days later.  We know who the mayor is.  We know who the gub'ner is.  We've heard from the chief of police.  Everyone in the country now knows about the 11 year old kid killed in a bus accident by a Haitian migrant.  We've heard recordings of 911 calls of geese being snatched out of the park.  All of them are calling out the problems that the Biden/Harris open border is causing.  Even the never-Trumpers on the MSM can't stop talking about the migrant problem in Ohio.  (Though they think it's about cats)  And it's going to top the news for awhile.

It may have been accidental, but it ended up being a genius move politically.

Riclag obviously succeeded in documenting that an inhabitant of Springfield had called police to warn of a goose being snatched. This was even supported by a recording of the call to police itself.

The fact that the police then failed to apprehend the suspects or to do anything about it, is hardly surprising. Police often fail in their job.

That proves only that there were allegations, nothing more.

The police did do something about it - they investigated and could find no evidence of geese, or any other animals being snatched.

Quote

A Springfield police spokesperson said, "In response to recent rumors alleging criminal activity by the immigrant population in our city, we wish to clarify that there have been no credible reports or specific claims of pets being harmed, injured or abused by individuals within the immigrant community."

In relation to the specific claims that geese had been snatched from parks:

... a city official said they had not been able to verify any of those reports and described them as "false" and "misleading" information amplified by social media.

If someone called 911 to report a stolen ice cream cone and the cops didn't find an ice cream cone, would that mean nobody stole an ice cream cone?

It's the same with any food.

They may not have evidence to identify a suspect or prosecute, but the 911 call is evidence that 4 guys were walking down the road, each with a goose from the local park. They call that an eyewitness.

And how would YOU know anyway? You are willing to accept the unverified words of people who supposedly live there over the words of the people who actually DO live there and are responsible for checking and verifying complaints.

You would believe the words of a serial liar, convicted felon and convicted sex offender.

You make an apt MAGA supporter. If Trump says it, it must be true.

If what he claims is the truth and is VERIFIED as a lie, Trump and the the MAGA supporters simply deny it.
