Good Question - Nail on the Head. 

My answer is that the 'truth' is only possible in a binary situation - right and wrong - such as Mathematics or Physics. But even then the issue becomes what you think it true and what is actually true - and cognitive bias plays a big part in the problem.  When Einstein first proposed his theories they were ridiculed (Darwin, Newton, etc etc etc) - and most scientific advancement has gone through that same process - challenging the existing dogma means confronting cognitive bias.

 

But when it comes to the political truth - the reality is that it is all propaganda - and that both 'sides' see things from their own perspective (cognitive bias).  However, when one side lies or distorts the truth - example Biden is not senile - or the border is secure - or Bidenomics is working - those with a cognitive bias towards that 'side' will either rationalise those lies/distortions or they will ignore them.  Likewise, when Trump denies using prostitutes, or claims he saved the world and brought about world peace, we conservatives let it go - we dont believe it - but we let it go.

 

And therein lies the truth. Conservatives have a 'limit' on what they will believe - we focus on the core values of a political situation.  However Socialists accept and believe everything they are told about the Leader/s of the opposing political party. They genuinely believe Trump is evil and a threat to mankind - because he is not one of them.  Conservatives have not attacked Biden for being senile - we have attacked the fact that the Dems supporters and MSM were denying that he was senile - because the truth was obvious.

 

The truth can and does hurt - but if you dont face it you will never grow/change. You gotta want to see it, to see it. But none of us are free of cognitive bias enough to see all truths.  IMO woke progressive liberals have no idea what is the truth - they could not see it with Biden, the Border, or Inflation, or the damages being done by Climate policies, or by the BS Gender Affirming lies - they just denied those truths and attacked anyone saying them. 

 

As for finding the 'truth' about any particular issue in the media - IMO there is no such thing. The MSM and Social Media is very biased towards left wing woke progressive ideologies - and they and left wing supporters will support those ideologies adamantly and fervently.  The rest of them are clearly right wing biased - the sources of our information as a society have been polarised to left wing and right wing, IMO there is no one there in the middle on all issues - but I see that the left wing have done what Musk and Maher have stated - they are now far left ideologues.  We now have men wearing a dress and smashing women at sports, and young children are being physically mutilated for life - the far left cognitive bias forces them to either rationalise the unrationalizable or ignore it and change the subject (or run away).

What makes you think I or most conservatives believed that story to be any more than an isolated incident blown out of all proportion. As soon as I saw that I was sceptical - but I did see reports of animals being caught and eaten (swans and ducks from the ponds - not sure about cats and dogs).

 

Yes Trump was silly to repeat the claim which resulted in a song going viral using Trump's voice - the videos are funny too.

I love Donald Trump and look forward to him winning the election - if it is fair and clean he will win.

 

One thing this thread has shown me is that, unlike another Expat focussed form, this place is infested with rabid Trump-hating woke liberals. It is an uphill battle speaking out to the cognitive impaired wokes about the MSM and Democrat lies, but it was worth the effort.
