Confusion Over U-Turn Sign Placement Leaves Drivers Baffled, Netizens Ask Who It’s For

Netizens are voicing their confusion and frustration after a U-turn traffic sign was found mounted unusually high on a light pole, leaving drivers unable to see it. A local rescue worker revealed that many people don't even realise it's a U-turn spot, resulting in frequent accidents.

 

The incident came to light after a Facebook user named "Na Kon Rescue" posted a video showing the blue U-turn sign, which was mounted on a streetlight near Chana Anusorn School in Ban Suan Subdistrict, Mueang District, Chonburi. The post quickly went viral, with many commenting on the sign’s impractical placement and questioning why it was installed so high.

 

 

A reporter visited the location, confirming that the sign was mounted approximately three metres above the ground. The sign’s height makes it nearly impossible for drivers to notice while traveling at regular speeds, especially in an area where U-turns are frequent and traffic is heavy.

 

Mr. Mana, a rescue worker from Chonburi’s Mangkon Rescue Unit (Rescue Unit 18), explained that the high placement of the sign has been a source of confusion for road users. "Drivers cannot see or read the sign indicating that this is a U-turn area, and I don't understand why it was placed so high. I urge the relevant authorities to address this issue and reposition the sign at eye level. This area has seen frequent accidents due to fast-moving vehicles and the inability of drivers to anticipate U-turning cars," he said.

 

Locals are hoping that authorities will take action soon to prevent further accidents and ensure road safety in the area.

If the sign is at 2 meters high or 3 meters high U turns on major highways probably cause more deaths than any other .

If you placed a large sign to say caution aproaching U turn slow down 300 meters in front  then that may help to save lives. 

When waiting to do a U turn I can see cars are travelling at high speed .

Put a speed camera in front of each U turn , that would also help .

Going by the rider on the scooter near the pole, I would say that sign is a lot higher than 3 metres. The sign is almost level with the top of the power pole behind it.

 

Maybe Bangkok is getting double decker buses. 🙂

On a road near our other house there is a white line painted on the road that intersects with the main road but the idiot workers have placed the stop sign facing the main road that has right of way instead of the side road that has to stop. I have seen this on a few roads around the area showing that the workers or the ones controlling them lack the ability to understand what they are doing and placing the signs wrongly or where they think they should be and not  where they should be. so placing a sign that far up a pole would be normal thinking for some of the workers

Maybe they thought The Boss would take it away if they didn't use it?

 

Or they were Burmese and mis-calculated their conversion from metres into feet.

Thoughtfulness in Thailand... They are so aware what they are doing... On the roads many times you see signs with distances that are mixed up... or useless signs or no signs at all... All to make the roads safer ...

Perspective.  Neither the bike nor the pole is close enough to be used as a comparison.

Everywhere I drive or ride in this country I see properly retarded signs and paint, or lack of them.

- Concrete speed bumps with zero warning

- lots and lots of warning paint and lights and speed limits for a gentle corner 

- 'rumble strips' painted in roads with not only 'no thought' but with apparently total stupidity

- warning of a corner paint on the road, after the apex of the corner to be warned about

- more more more... I don't have time or space

 

All I can guess is that someone connected to the corrupt decision maker 'sells' paint and/or speed humps and/or warning lights

It's for the pedestrian bridge, that is in principle also a u-turn.

Same on a road near me in Don Meuang, Bkk. Nobody on the main road seems to stop or even slow down, yet those coming out onto the main road from the side-sois do so with trepidation.

I've said before Thailand doesn't  appear to have any traine road traffic engineers - sign is inconsistent in THailand to the [oint of being random - this is a major contributor to Thailand's huge road death toll

Well - you're exceeding the limit and you would probably fail the compulsory eye test when you renew your licence - you do have one??
